Dear DD I know daddy's very distant relative's comments on your Facebook birthday post upset you. I don't know what to do other than follow your wishes of not posting anything with you in it if I tag daddy. I can easily not tag daddy. I already switched my profile picture to the dog and now have a lot of people worried something is wrong with said doggy. Can you give me a break please? Mommy guilt Mom
Dear WPs The comments were how DD looked just like DH and was a last name through and through. He hasn't seen these relatives for probably 30 years and they have never meet me or DD. These comments rubbed me the wrong way but jeez they really hurt DD. "I'm nothing like daddy and I don't want to be a "last name" because they are all idiots". What is wrong with people just saying happy birthday? 186momx who is wallowing in mom guilt
That’s hard. Does your DD look a lot like her dad? It’s really funny that my family says my DD look just like literally 1) me, and 2) my mom, and say DS looks just like 1) my dad and 2) various nephews, and DH’s relatives say DS looks just like 1) DH and 2) DH’s dad and DD looks just like 1) MIL and 2) DH’s niece. And guess what? They’re all right and they’re all wrong. My kids look so much like each other that until they were about 4 years old, facial recognition couldn’t tell them apart. And DH’s niece, who is not at all related to me, looks so much like me at various ages that I can slide pics of me into a group of pics of her and her own mother doesn’t notice! So tell your DD that everyone sees what they want to see, and when they see a pretty little girl, they want to claim that her beauty comes from their side of the family. Some of it does. Some of it doesn’t. And she’s not a —— “through and through” because she’s half another family.
But I would also work on how she feels about her dad. I know he’s very difficult, but half her genes do come from him. When my brother got divorced, I remember his family therapist reminding him that dogging his ex was dogging half his kids. So to be careful to talk about actions versus talking about how something is an innate trait.
Thank you for your archive sale. Also, I hate you.

Dear WP,
It's perfectly normal to own 8 pairs of the same exact shoe but in different colors/patterns, right?
Signed, I'm going to need confirm this in writing for DH.
ETA: Shameless self promotion.. if you don't have a pair yet and want $20 off... You can get a pair for $45 ($65 - $20), depending on the size/pattern/style you pick. You can PM so the world doesn't know my real name...
mommyatty, some of her expressions are similar to his and her bushy eyebrows are from dad but looking at the family pictures we took in the fall I wouldn't say she looks any more like dad than she does me. I actually think she looks a lot like my sister did at that age. "So tell your DD that everyone sees what they want to see, and when they see a pretty little girl, they want to claim that her beauty comes from their side of the family. Some of it does. Some of it doesn’t. And she’s not a —— “through and through” because she’s half another family." I'm going to share this with DD and hopefully it rings true to her. I will say that DD tries very hard to not be like her dad. As she has gotten older she has stopped doing some behaviors because daddy does.

I picked a good day to look here for the first time in…years. I’ve been wanting to try Rothy’s so I just “had” to get a pair at this price.
Dear Alaska Airlines, thanks for one of my better customer service experiences lately. You almost redeemed yourself from our flight cancellation mess last summer. It was pretty nice that you helped me get back a $500 credit and 10,000 miles after I noticed prices for our fall Hawaii flights went way down and called. I'm not sure how some flights are way cheaper when most are going up like crazy, but I'll take it when I have to buy 6 plane tickets to go anywhere.
Dear DS2, you're at a generally pretty annoying age right now, but at least it was balanced out by how excited you were about everything on your 5th birthday yesterday.
Dear self, you will survive the next several days, I promise. It's not often (ever?) that a meeting with your most at-risk client, pre-K promotion and party, last day of elementary school including class parties and 2 parties afterward at the beach (why did you volunteer to make 24 pre-toasted smores??), two softball practices and a scrimmage followed by a BBQ, the district championship softball tournament an hour away with an unknown number of games and schedule, as well as 3 weekend birthday parties fall in the same 3-day period. Oh wait, I forgot that we're also hosting DS2's ninja warrior 5th birthday party at the park for 40 people during this same 3 days. And I have to get the stitches out of my eyelids Friday. OMG.
I'm glad you are enjoying Girl Scout camp so much that you will attend even in the middle of a heat wave. And I am glad they are rotating the campers inside or water play to help with the heat. It's been fun doing the drop off and pick ups even though it does add an extra 15 minutes to my commute one way (and they didn't have my name listed for pick up on the first day so that was fun). Glad you are enjoying the trade post, tie dyeing, water games, and more. Hope you get to do archery soon.
Love, Mom
Dear weather, Why are you being such a PITA heat wave/ advisory on 2 of the 3 weeks, DD will have GS camp outside, huh why?

Dear WPs, Please send some of your heat to the PNW. It's currently in the 50's and raining and we don't have a 70 degree day anywhere on the next 14 day forecast. Signed, Ready for summer weather
Dear upper management, I still don't understand why you are requiring us to be in the office 1 day per month for our monthly TEAMS meeting which lasts 15-30 minutes. I understand team building and morale, but I'm still remote from DC, whether I'm in the office or at my house. Signed, My home office is much better

k3am don’t feel bad. I also bought 3 pairs today. But I did get one that’s the square instead of flat. I also got one with a bow that I don’t love but I can deal with a bow for $40or more savings.

Dear interviewee, When I ask how you will build relationships with your team members as a remote employee, the correct answer is not making sure you have a dedicated room in your house for your home office. I wanted to like you and I’m bummed. Sorry, Me
Dear last week of school, You have me feeling like spring 2020 over here with no before/after care and juggling 10,000 school events and requirements. I woke up at 5 to get a couple hours of work in before the kids descended on me. I'm already tired. Thank god tomorrow is the last day of school. But of course we have the busiest weekend ever ahead. Signed, Tired
Dear house, I should have sold you when we first started thinking about it. Now the carpet in the bedrooms is a mess and lifting up around the edges and needs to be replaced. And the kitchen floor tiles are a mess but we've been ignoring it. Looks like I'll be pricing out floor installation for the whole damn house to get everything back to a decent state. I think I'm going to have to investigate a home equity loan. Ugh. Signed, So much for that savings account

We’ve done several online events over the past 2 years and they’re hit or miss. Games work well, teaming for training/case studies and small group work for those works well, but almost everything else was blah. What it really has come down to is working together a lot, repetition, intentional, regular open one on one communication and tons of it. Like at least double of what it takes if in person. And it’s still hit or miss.
This guy wouldn’t have been a good fit even if he said communication and effort. He came across as very tone deaf in several ways.
xctsclrx , I haven't tried Thinx, but a friend I was with last night said she used it for a while and then switched back to tampons. We didn't get into why. I'm sticking with tampons despite the shortage
xctsclrx, I have one pair of Thinx. I had an ablation several years ago which all but eliminated my very heavy periods, but the last couple have been heavier than I'm used to
They are extremely bulky. Very much feel like a diaper. It reminded me of the gigantic pads/mesh panties I got/stole a million pairs of from the hospital after my kids. I wear them to bed, but I can't stand wearing them regularly.
I've never been able to comfortably wear tampons, and I got rashes from pads, so I was really hopeful.

The thing that helped my small team the most was setting a weekly meeting for an hour for just catching up and hanging out. The permission to just hop on a Teams call and shoot the shit, like we would throughout the day if we were in the office, made a huge difference in us all staying connected! I'd never have a set agenda or anything. It was literally just water cooler talk - what shows we're watching, who has plans for the weekend, catching up... I know a few other small teams at my org would open a teams call, turn their cameras off, and just chat while they worked throughout the day. It made it feel like they were together in the office.
We're about to launch a company-wide initiative that we did a few years ago in person and had a huge impact on team bonding. Every employee is randomly assigned a list of 5-10 other employees in the organization. You're expected to set up a quick 10 minute chat with each person on your list and get to know them a little bit. We give prompts like easiest/hardest part of your job, how long have you been here, how did you join/find the company, etc.. so no one feels pressured to share personal details. Our org can be very siloed sometimes with sales vs. ops so this has helped to build bridges between people that normally might not interact. You jot down your notes from each interview and turn it in to your manager when you're done the whole list. We did it 4 years ago and on every employee survey since then, people mention that we should bring it back because it was so fun. For this round, it's "yearbook" themed, so it's like you're getting people to "sign your yearbook" with the interviews. I bought silly composition notebooks for everyone to use. We'll spend the summer working on it and then we're hosting a company field day at the end as the big wrap up party.
ETA - I feel like I should note that at almost 36, I skew old for my very casual company LOL So that may be why this stuff is so popular for us vs other organizations...
Anyone have a trick for getting the sludge created by sunscreen and dirt off a kid? DS has a strong resemblence to Pig Pen (from Peanuts!) when he comes home from camp. Yesterday he showered and as I was reading to him I noticed that he was still filthy. Threw him in the tub and I scrubbed him myself and.. it didn't budge. We eventually ended up using dish soap, but it took about 20 minutes of scrubbing and soaking to get it off, but I imagine that isn't great for his skin.. I imagine there's an easier way that I just don't know about?
mae0111, that is good info to know. DD is interested in them, but I said I didn't want to buy and have on hand since we have no idea when it may start. Right now she is 11 and under 70lbs and wears a size 5/6 girls undies. Most of the girls at the gym all develop early but don't start until the 13/14 age range and DD said the head coach has a team box in the bathroom full of supplies for them just in case. There was a big deal a few months ago because some of the 13/14 year old girls wore shorts to the meet. They had a huge team meeting to discuss not wearing shorts to meets and after that the box showed up in the bathroom. DD doesn't like the idea of pads because they feel bulky but isn't too keen on tampons so she thought the undies would be perfect. Maybe I should order some so she can see how they feel look and then return them.
