I'm looking for ways to optimize storage and organization. I'm going back to work full time in Aug and now is the time to get it together.
Has anyone added built-in storage that has been really helpful/impactful? Or stand alone furniture that holds a lot and looks good?
Has adding organizational items to closets made them more useful and organized?
Any items you love from the Container Store? I want to order a basket with lid for our keys/sunglasses/wallet and it's free shipping for $75+ so looking for other items to add on.
Tips for shoes? We keep old shoes in the garage for lawn work and everything else in our coat closet but it's a wreck! (2 dd's, we have a ton of shoes)
We have an under the staircase closet that is literally just where we throw crap. I would like this to be seasonal items and cleaning supplies.
Of course budget is a consideration. We're not going to live here forever and will likely downsize but my actual storage space is almost non-existent in relation to the size of my house.
This is not a great photo, but we put in an Elfa closet system in our front hall closet this winter. The drawers are great for corralling all the hats, gloves, scarves, or other seasonal accessories. Each person has their own drawer.
Right now we keep rags in a box on the floor, but as my kids get older (bigger) and the short hanging space above the drawers becomes less useful, I will get more drawers going up higher for the rags and other items.

That is identical to our closet and we have a big problem with hats, gloves, scarves! Love those drawers for that because we keep those things high up and they are always falling down. Where do you keep your shoes (because if I lose floor space in there I have to have a new place for them)?
rooster222, we have never stored shoes in our front hall closet, so I don't have solution for that specific problem. You can choose how high the drawers are installed though, so you can just put them higher if you wanted. Elfa is fully height adjustable.

It's not built-in but rather freestanding but we got IKEA storage for our new walk-in closet and it's great. And now I realize we don't have a single photo of our closet! It's this:
rooster222, That's funny... I Just had to go check. My boyfriend only has a pair of sneakers and a pair of boots that he leaves on our porch. The whole shoe holder is full of mine and my kids' shoes! LOL It's pretty tight to fit a men's pair of shoes in one cubby.

Do you watch The Home Edit on Netflix or follow them on Instagram? they're all about this. they have a container line at Walmart that they use for smaller items in closets, pantries, etc...
we have something similar to what you do in our front closet - but the other side bottom always gets cluttered. But the bins are great for hats, gloves, etc....

I do watch The Home Edit and love it but I can't transfer the ideas to my house very easily. I did not know they had a line at Walmart. I will check that out!
