I'm watching cspan 3 but it's through some guy's youtube. He paused in the middle of the judge (so I'm behind a bit) to point out that Cruz calls this judge a mentor and that Eastman clerked for him which is why his particular presence is thought to be so powerful among conservatives
His speech almost seems like what you’d expect if someone had an interpreter in their ear and they weren’t used to it. (I’m not implying that’s what is happening, just what it reminds me of.
PDQ: His speech/language patterns on the surface here don’t seem to follow patterns of what I’d expect from someone who had a stroke or dementia or anything. Sometimes people with Parkinson’s have kind of lilting speech and one of the characteristics can be difficulty getting started with speech phrases. Obviously, I have no idea of his medical history and am not implying that is the case here…just sharing a possible scenario.
However, I think it’s far more likely that he feels the weight of what is being asked of him, and he is being VERY careful with his word choices. It’s likely that if he’s generally a more conservative judge, he knows that many people are upset with him being there in the first place. So he’s trying to burn as few bridges as possible while still only speaking truth. Very carefully.

I can't believe this whole time, maybe because I try to push the 2000 election out of my head as much as possible, I didn't even think about how if the VP had any power to do what Trump wanted Pence to do...Al Gore could have just helped himself. And he lost in a wayyyyyyyy worse way. That's a persuasive argument for the masses.

For those who made have missed that clip, here it is on Twitter:
“Al Gore did not have a basis to [overturn the election results] in 2000, Kamala Harris shouldn't be able to do it in 2024, but I think you should do it today.”
I hate the glorification of Mike Pence, but damn. I do respect him not caving to these evil cultists and Trump. He never seemed to have much of a spine but I suspect that's why Trump chose him.
Trump called Pence a pussy and said he wasn't going to be his "friend". JFC, it scares me still that a crazed, narcissistic orange baby was, IN CHARGE OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

I was listening while sitting in traffic on my commute home. When they got to the part where Trump said he wouldn’t be his friend anymore I literally laughed out loud alone in my car. I just can’t… the level of immaturity. I’m so glad Pence took a stand. If I were a betting person I would have thought he would have caved.
I was listening to coverage on my commute and the defense of the judge was that he is federal judge who is well trained in using words deliberately for transcripts of the record for all eternity. We are used to sassy scripted writing in law shows and this guy has the full knowledge that the full weight of every word he speaks will be recorded and dissected for all time.

We knew previously that DT threw Pence under the bus, but seeing it all laid out like this, I have it in me to feel sorry for him. His closest colleague and a person with huge power pressured him relentlessly and publicly and then publicly blamed him and made him a target of violence.
hearing his lawyer say how he wouldn’t leave because he was “behind the wheel” and couldn’t set the image of the VP fleeing the Capitol… yes, I can even say I respect that.
I wonder where Pence is now and what he is doing this Pride month. And if he reconsiders his view of the world since he so narrowly missed all the symbolic violence he‘s enacted being revisited upon him physically.

I really don’t remember Eastman’s name from all the threads upon threads of daily outrages we made for 4 years. I remember so many names and so much egregious debauchery and absurdity but I personally do not remember his name frothing about in that cesspool. Who knows how much wickedness he wrought flying under the radar?!

He jockeyed for a pardon. Brazen and yet craven.
the only reason I know his name because he was a law professor at a local university. The Orange County Reddit and Facebook groups were talking all about him at the insurrection and calling for him to be fired or resign.
