DD2 (age 4) has an appointment for Moderna a week from tomorrow. We have to travel about half an hour for it and it was the only Walgreens that I saw offering Moderna. She has her 4 year well check tomorrow and if they’ll be getting Moderna in any time before the end of June I’ll probably just get it there instead.
Will any of the 7 who voted no plans to vaccinate share why not? Does your child have a medical condition that won't allow it?
I have no plans to immediately vaccinate my 4 year old. My H, I, and my 5 year old were all vaccinated as soon as possible as the vaccine became available. We all caught Covid in January of this year (vaccinated 5 year old was patient zero). My unvaccinated 4 year was almost symptom free (just a runny nose for 12 hours). We are in FL so being vaccinated doesn't provide any advantage of avoiding quarentines or anything school related. Honestly I just don't see a huge benefit of getting her vaccinated at this point. I'm burnt out. We shut our lives down for two years, got vaccinated when we could, and got it anyway. And for the one unvaccinated person, Covid affected her the least. We do cruise regularly, and if at some point she needs to be vaccinated for that, I'll do it.

Yes it would be interesting to know! I wonder if it’s safety concerns? Or generally against vaccines? People aren’t that great at assessing risks :/
I know the RSV vaccine continues to be in the works (again) and I think it’s in later stages (in adults for now). It’ll be interesting to see the uptake of that if it comes to market.
I was very impatient for this but we got covid in May so that lowered my urgency substantially. Now H and I are negotiating. He wants to get our 4yo Pfizer because he had a rough go with Moderna. I want Moderna because she is terrified of shots and I hate holding her down for them, so one less dose sounds great.
I have heard mixed messages about how long after infection to wait but I'd like her to get it soon-ish. If I can get her in at our pediatrician that will be my first choice. I am not going to wait the 7 months until she turns 5 for the higher dose.

I'm not planning to get my 4 year old vaccinated immediately, since he has had COVID twice in the past 8 months. And we just moved to a new state, so still trying to get set up with a new pediatrician. I do plan to get him vaccinated by late July however, since he starts preschool in early September.

I didn’t know this was in the works! That would be amazing. We suspected our 7 year old of having RSV a couple of months ago and went to extreme measures to keep the rest of us from getting it since DD was a newborn. It was brutal and scary.
DD just got her first dose today! We called this morning after hearing from a friend that she got a spot and they had a spot for us too. The office was pretty packed and chaotic, which was actually good to see. I'm glad to finally get started on getting her protected.
I have #2's first dose scheduled for next Monday, her 3rd birthday. Happy Birthday kiddo, here's a shot!
The pharmacy around the corner from us has Moderna and is doing walk in vaccines buuuut only if 3 or older. I am SO tempted to take #2 on Saturday and fudge her age by 2 days so I can give her a couple more days to lay low at home if she has any side effects. I won't because I am a rule follower, but I want to real bad.

I know you said you won’t do this so it’s not directed at you but as a general FYI if you do this then the birthdays on the shot record and actual birthday won’t match which will cause all kinds of headaches later on down the line, including people potentially not believing the child is vaccinated since the name and DOB don’t line up.

Yes, I believe it’s in phase 3 for older adults. Not sure if/when for younger people and kids, but it seems they’re making progress in it being safe and effective so yay science!

That's the gist of why I won't do it-I'm too afraid it'll cause an issue at some point, for either us or the pharmacy. It's good to hear my concern was on the right track though, thanks!
I called the pedi today. They are very pro-vaccine, but he said that since the studies were so small, and knowing what we know about how the virus works even with it, he recommends waiting a few months to see how the kids who get it are reacting to the vaccine. I was honestly surprised.
We were able to schedule an appointment with the health department for July 5. So she should be fully vaccinated by the time baby gets here!
The pediatrician isn’t planning a clinic for 2 months because they don’t have any supply yet. I was disappointed to hear that.
A friend’s pediatrician isn’t doing it at all and she had to drive 2 hours to find a clinic that would due to their age. I’m not sure I’m that dedicated, and we’ve been pretty Covid cautious.
DS has Moderna appointments for 7/8 and 8/5. He will be fully vaxxed as of 8/19!
We could have done Pfizer sooner and easier, but the date would be further out for being fully vaxxed. Things have been so difficult lately with childcare and quarantines, I just needed the most efficient path to full vaccination.
My 3.5 yr old got her first dose of Moderna on Friday. She just had covid for the first time earlier this month about 3 weeks before this shot) so I was a little worried about a strong reaction, but we didnt see that. Her initial infection seemed mild, runny nose/decreased appetite and tired/low energy for a couple days, for the shot itself she said it hurt initially but said her leg wasn't hurting anymore within 30 minutes and was running around playing. She had it in the evening and went to bed/slept fine that night, my husband said she seemed maybe a little fussy the next morning so he gave her tylenol once just in case, but other than that she was totally fine for the rest of the day and since. Just some reassurance for anyone wondering how it might go! Her next shot will be exactly 4 weeks from the first.

My pedi said the same and I changed doctors. It just seems so skeevy to me. It reads like, “Let’s let other people’s children take all the risk since you’re privileged enough to likely be ok if your kid gets it.” Vaccines protect everyone not just the one receiving them.

I didn’t take it quite that way. They said that kids have been lower transmitters, that it doesn’t prevent illness, we live in a highly vaccinated area, and the kids are not as sick (and that was true for my kids when we had it). But maybe it also depends on your relationship with your pedi.
Isn’t that the whole point of the studies and trials?? Don’t we already know how kids have reacted to it by this time?
Since we all had Covid in May the dr was ok about waiting to maximize natural immunity, but I’m over it. Put that needle in my kids now, please and thank you. My youngest 2 got Pfizer yesterday. One didn’t even cry, the other cried for like 3 seconds.
If my pedi didn’t recommend the vaccine for my kid (otherwise healthy, no issues constraining it), I’d probably get a new pedi. My opinion obviously, YMMV.
My daughter turned 2 yesterday and had her 2YO checkup this morning. The pedi's office happened to be running an <5 vaccination clinic today as well, so she got her first dose! I'm thrilled.
My 4yo got hers today and the 7yo got his booster. I'm so proud of him, he was really calm. DD was a different story, lol, but I'm glad she was finally able to get it! Yay. What a journey.
