Our primary room is sooo hot. Right now we have a hideous box fan and a table top retro looking fan. It's still hot, the fans get really dusty, and it's not visually appealing. The room isn't enormous (like some primaries) but it has a cathedral ceiling so I think that contributes to the problems.
Anyone have an attractive fan or little AC unit (not window) that you would recommend? I don't want anything super pricey (like the PB fan I found for $269.).

I'm not sure there is such a thing as an attractive AC unit. It was the last thing I was worried about with getting an AC unit for my bedroom (we too have a top floor bedroom that is ungodly hot and AC was the only thing that cooled it off - fans were useless). We use a portable AC unit (in the UK so sharing link is useless).
As far as aesthetics go, you aren't going to really find a good looking air conditioning unit, all that really matters is if it cools the space. If you are worried about what it will look like from outside, get a portable AC unit. If you want to still be able to open the window, they have the new low profile AC window units. If you don't already, I would invest in a good ceiling fan, getting the air circulating will really make a difference, especially once you have AC in the space.

Would you consider a portable air conditioner? I've never used one, but it looks like you would just have the vent in the window rather than the entire unit.

I'm not familiar with these but I'll check it out.

This isn’t going to be attractive. It’s like an ac unit on wheels with a tube that stretches to the window. In addition i can’t imagine it will be effective with cathedral ceilings.
Have you looked into ductless AC (mini splits)? That's probably the least ugly option and also the best cooling. I know someone with mini splits in a house with cathedral ceilings and they're happy with it.

Yes, the mini split is going to get you the best bang for your buck in a cathedral ceiling. It will bring cool air in at the top which will fall down onto you and create a good breeze. Look into the Mitsubishi Mr. Slim or equivalent. This is going to be a more expensive option all over, but will address your needs best.
