Her paranoia here is likely related to when, in the 1960s, her younger sister (maybe 10) was put on a plane to Dulles instead of JFK as an unaccompanied minor. Apparently my aunt broke down in tears, saying "I don't want to go to Texas!"
100% team you on her asking your H after you'd already been clear. I hope it's all sorted now. And this part is hilarious!
cmeon how is your roof going? They were actually able to start ours this morning. It started raining again unexpectedly last night around midnight and were were like noooooooo, but it was dry enough by 8 am. They aren't supposed to finish ours until Wednesday, but claim it will get a lot quieter once they start laying down the metal. The plywood placement today was very jarring. I think I'm going to leave the house tomorrow to avoid fraying my nerves anymore.

It's almost (they tried so hard!!) done. They are putting caps on the peaks tomorrow, and the custom vent covers they had to make are getting paint and going up, too. But it's really looking great, we have had at least half a dozen neighbors come by to ask us about it!
The tear down (they only had to replace one piece of plywood, so this was just shingle removal/old underlayment being pulled up/new stuff going on) was so LOUD, definitely the worst day. I won't say the panels going up made for quiet days, but the noise is more localized (vs. coming from everywhere at once when they were pulling shingles off). Lots of... get your inner 11yo ready... banging and screwing. I fully support your escape plan, but it should be at least a little better.
I hope your weather behaves! We expected afternoon showers all week, but none of it materialized. I'll send that luck your way now!
ETA: We have found a few metal shards every day, despite a truly valiant effort from the roofers. They walk around with magnets and catch most of them, but little pieces have been missed. So be careful!

Our weather should be fine going forward. It was really nice out today, Friday should be more of the same, and then we're in heat wave territory for a few days.
My H is definitely worried about metal shards. Our cars are parked in the street for now, but he plans to do a once over of the driveway himself after they leave because he fears for our tires.
I'm curious too. To be fair though, we usually have one year-end thread to wrap up loose ends on advice, vents, travel recs etc
MOOKS bedtimes
OMG that thread gave me so much anxiety. I don't know Sameoldstory's situation, but my ds who turns 13 next month and is going into 8th has absolutely given me reason not to trust him, has ADHD, has shown that he really only thrives when he follows a strict routine, etc. and he still has a 9:00 bedtime, even in summer. He complains about it all the time, but that's what time dh and I go upstairs to go to get into bed. I know at some point we're going to need to let him stay up later than us, but he absolutely hasn't shown that he's ready for that yet.
