Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.), who faces a primary election Tuesday, says she is “tired” of the U.S. separation of church and state, a long-standing concept stemming from a “stinking letter” penned by one of the Founding Fathers.
Speaking at a religious service Sunday in Colorado, she told worshipers: “The church is supposed to direct the government. The government is not supposed to direct the church. That is not how our Founding Fathers intended it.”
She added: “I’m tired of this separation of church and state junk that’s not in the Constitution. It was in a stinking letter, and it means nothing like what they say it does.” Her comments were first reported by the Denver Post.
The Constitution’s First Amendment, which states that “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,” has been widely interpreted to mean the separation of church and state — although the phrase is not explicitly used.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
Ah, so that amendment is open for interpretation, but not the 2A (although, yes, gun nuts do run with their own interpretation - ignore that pesky "well regulated militia" bit). 2A till they die, but screw all the other amendments!
My former FIL would NOT shut up about how the US is a “Christian Nation” and that our founders clearly meant the religious freedom was to practice various forms of Christianity, not any other religion.

the mental gymnastics here alone are enough to make a normal brain burst, they must have some kind of abnormal lobe that allows this logic to make sense.
I'm pretty proud to be an atheist, but current events have me considering throwing in with the Satanic Temple to boost their numbers.

Setting aside all the other many problems with her and all of them, (Rhetorical question) How do we decide which Christian church is to direct the government?

That's all the junk we don't really need to worry about. Too tiresome

Well considering the Satanic Temple is a political organization and doesn't really have anything to do with the practice of religious faith, I don't see a conflict there.

i know they are political- but they are classified as a church by the IRS, and if we're going to have to fight having the church run the state might as well join one that will battle for a piece of the pie.
is there a good democrat challenger? Is she in a super red part of CO?
She is in a firmly red area of the mountain west. It’s an area that I, as a BIPOC, largely don’t feel comfortable hanging around in unless I am with my white husband. So. There’s that.

pugz, Yep. Not just red, MAGA red. People are nut jobs out there.
Her district covers nearly the entire western half of the state. It includes places like Telluride, which are unapologetically liberal, but that's a very small percentage compared to the district overall.
This is the shit that I can’t understand my Catholic father-in-law blindly goes along with. DUDE, when the religious evangelical zealots get their way, it won’t go well for the Catholics.
