Why are we judging who chooses to test or not test? If someone wants to test, test! If you don't care, then don't! I don't get it. Tests are widely available now, often covered by insurance. If you have them and are worried, test for peace of mind.

I'm so confused by this whole conversation.
Who is judging other people's decisions?
"No sure why people are telling you not to test at all if you don't feel sick and/or no one at the wedding reports having covid.
Someone in this very thread. Look, I'm not belaboring the point but there clearly are people who are.
Well, FTR, I have returned home from my cruise to alaska. So far, so good. We took enough tests that we could both test every day. In reality, one of us tested most days, but not both every. In that whole testing discussion, I did kind of wonder what I was testing for since we didn’t have symptoms, really. And with rapid home tests, what was testing doing for me? What would I do with the results? This was complicated by being east coasters in alaska, so I was constantly tired, from being off schedule and doing a lot (tripled move rings and double exercise rings most days, without really trying).
I met up with a college friend of mine in Juneau. Which was really awesome. He took us places where we were the only people! But when we stopped at Mendalhall Glacier, with all the cruisers (6 ships in port) it was INSANE. He made a comment about no wonder why are still in a pandemic. And I quipped back with something about ba.5 actually having outdoor transmission. He said “oh, that one is put in alaska yet.” Then we looked around and were like… yes, yes it is.
We are all meals except my birthday dinner in the room or outside on the back deck. Thanks to me keeping east coast hours, I was in bed at like 6pm, so we avoided most of the indoor, nighttime parties.
So, I did a rapid test before I picked up the dog from the sitter, but still stayed outside to chat with them. Because, our layover was in Las Vegas, which is not amount my most hated airports (non-Cove reason: who connects B and C terminal at C25 instead of C1?! - got an extra mile of walking in from that).
If neither of us develops symptoms, I doubt I’ll test again. Or maybe one more on Friday. The layover worries me.

Cardiologist says I should get a troponin test. I have a blood draw scheduled in a couple months anyway. Not needed urgently as I had a heart scan 5/31 and a perfect CRP test days before I tested positive. Doctor is iffy about whether I even had it at all but says not to bother with the antibodies test.
My friend is trying to puzzle out when she got COVID. She tested positive this past Saturday. She is already negative today. These were all at home tests. Is it normal for that quick of a turn around or was she likely positive days prior to Saturday’s symptoms?

Did she have symptoms and, if so, when did the symptoms start? Saturday?

Yes, sore throat and stuffy. Started Saturday.
That seems quick to me, but I could see that maybe she was contagious a day or two before Saturday, but I thought the prevailing thought was that we were moving away from the pre-symptomatic transmission days of yore. Maybe her immune system just knocked it out really quickly! It took me a full week from positive test to negative test. Sunday to Sunday.

My H thought he tested negative that quickly (binax) but he was still feeling symptomatic so re-tested with a different brand and was still positive (quickvue), not even a squinter. So while I’ve loved binax this entire pandemic, I don’t trust them anymore.
Has anyone done the antibody treatment? It's been offered, but now I'm second guessing.
I was about to explain SIL and my cousin’s experience with Paxlovid and then realized that’s not what you’re asking lol
Yeah, it's monoclonal antibody treatment. They'll come to my house and administer it, but I'm reading it's not all that effective against the newest variants.

Feel better, pixy0stix. I agree Paxlovid is much better. I now wish I had taken it now that more people I know have taken it with good results, but at the time I was too afraid of a rebound. Maybe I would have knocked covid out a lot quicker if I had taken it.
We are all getting over covid. Symptoms have stopped and Friday is our last official day of masking. I am disappointed about missing our vacation, but more unhappy that we missed spending time with extended family. DHs aunt has stage 3 melanoma and we were looking forward to spending time with her since her diagnosis this spring. We are taking a mini make-up trip at the end of August to the same destination with ILs. Not the same, but at least it’s something.
Well, two years in H and I now both have COVID for the first (known) time. I'm sad we will have to miss an old friend's wedding and also change some travel plans, but trying to look on the "it could be worse" bright side.

My DH tested positive last Wednesday but symptoms started mildly on Tuesday. So that puts him around day 8/9. He’s still testing positive but feels almost 100%. He’s supposed to fly home to us (he’s been working out of state) on Friday. I think he probably will still fly home but I’m hoping we don’t get it from him on day 10+.

Anyone else test positive for a long time?
13 days of positives for me. I don’t know anyone else who’s tested on antigens that long though besides me, womp womp.

Woah! That’s so long. I think this new variant is throwing things for a loop. Are you still having symptoms?

I tested positive through day 14 on at-home tests. Felt totally fine by then, but kept getting faint lines. This was two months ago, so who knows what variant I had.
ETA: I tested mostly because I was curious. I think CDC guidance is still isolate through day 5, mask 6-10 if symptoms improve regardless of whether you are testing negative or positive, right? I see people testing a ton and acting like it means something to their isolation/masking and I don’t get it.

Agreed. I’d feel better about him coming home if we know he is testing negative. The CDC is still saying isolate 5 then mask until 10, but there’s some conflicting research on whether you are still shedding the virus and possibly contagious if you are still testing positive at 10+. We also have a family get together on day 12. They have all said they are fine with us coming but we don’t want to cause a super-spreader event.

Should have clarified - this was in early June. I feel 100% fine now. Because of where i live and when I had it, it’s plausible I had BA5 but I really can’t know for sure.
Has it been posted that apparently there is a 3rd round of free tests at www.covid.gov/tests.
That said, when I tried, it told me my address had already received the max amount. I’m 90% certain I did 2 rounds, but not a 3rd.
In other unsurprising news, my Covid exposure app popped up with a notification last night. Saying I was exposed on the 22nd. Which is, of course, the only day we did a public meal and the only time I was unmasked in public more than half a minute. I’m still negative on rapids and have no symptoms. I am debating if I should go out at get a PCR test, just in case.
Well, perhaps I have symptoms. I’m jetlagged and a flew, so I am tired and have minor sinus congestion - the type I would normally write off as airplane pressure changes. I’m going to guess you all would support testing 😂
