As a teacher I'll say to a kid "let me know in 10 minutes if it gets worse." Usually they forget. Those that don't I'll send down to the nurse, sometimes they come back and really all they needed was to lay down for a few minutes. Most kids I can tell if they are not feeling well. BUT sometimes the vomiting comes out of nowhere!
I can tell when SS gets sick. He gets tired, doesn't want to play etc.

I can tell, but my kids are 7 and nearly 5 so their faking skills are completely unsophisticated. Once they're older it'll be harder to tell. I dont see why that's hard to believe.
Unless she is burning hot or really obviously ill, I tell her to try to forget about it and see if that helps. Or that she will feel better in the morning. 99% of the time, I don't hear about it again. The other 1%, there is really something going on.

I guess, if you've got a sophisticated faker. I just always had unmistakeable symptoms, other than a high fever.

I once faked sick for a whole semester of school. I had a personal tutor and my class sent me feel better packages because I was the sickly kid in their class. It ended with my getting my tonsils out. Even my doctor could not tell I was faking. I just really hated 3rd grade.
When I was in 3rd grade I remember telling my mom I didn't feel good. She gave me nyquil and sent me to bed. I woke up the next morning, told her I still felt sick. She gave me dayquil (she thought I was faking though) and sent me to school, and I projectile vomited several times on the bus. Ew. She felt pretty awful about it. She definitely believed me after that whenever I said I was sick!
Also, I remember in 1st grade I went inside on recess to my teacher because I felt terrible, and she shooed me back outside. I kept complaining the rest of the morning so she finally sent me to the nurse...and I had a whopping 107 degree fever (my mom immediately took me to the doctor who had me covered in ice bags). I remember my teacher felt so bad about that.
My mom eventually figured out that when I was actually sick my eyes would get all glassy looking--I always had a glassy eyed, dazed look about me when ill, no matter what I was sick with.

Now THAT is commitment. Undergoing surgery. You should have been an actress for sure!
i faked an asthma attack one day because my mom came home from work early and my boyfriend was at the house breaking the "no boys in teh house when nobody is home" rule. he hid in the basement, i faked an asthma attack upstairs, and when mom came upstairs he ran out the back door and through the woods to a friend's house. it is simultaneously my favorite story from my teen years and something i feel the worst about doing to my mom. lol.
lol this is oh so awesome and oh so terrible all at the same time.
Wait, Soleil, you had a 107 fever and you're teacher didn't notice? Hmm.
Maya tells me her tummy hurts a lot, usually in the car. They both get car sick, so I honestly don't know when she's serious sometimes. Usually if she asks for ice on it, she's faking

I rarely faked sick, but she was usually on to me when I did. There was one time that I wasn't faking it and she called bullshit because I didn't have a fever or any signs. Fast forward 2 hours later and my teacher is forcing me to go down to the nurse and my Mom has to come pick me up because I have a fever.
S loves the taste of medicine so will totally fake sick. It was so cute, last night he was all "I need medicine, I need medicine." H said "you only get medicine when you're sick." So S did this pathetic cough and said "see, I'm sick, I need medicine." But yeah, he's 3.
I faked sick when I was a kid and got away with it. My parents didn't really care either way, they didn't look for symptoms and I didn't do it very often so maybe that's why they gave me the benefit of the doubt.
I ALWAYS faked sick. Oh my god. Every day, I had a "fever." In first grade, I went to the school nurse daily to cry about how I needed to go home. She started keeping juice boxes for me and preemptively calling me down to her office. I'd have some juice, she'd let me call my mom, and then I went back to class.

I think I will suck at detecting fakeness. I was the kid who would be sick and begging to be allowed to go to school. I have no bag of tricks to reference other than those featured in Ferris Bueller's Day Off.

The little girl i used to nanny for would tell me she was sick and then if i suspected she was faking I would make her just sit and do nothing until it passed but most of the time she would recover from her death bed quickly.
When I was a kid my mom learned never to question me after the number of times that I didn't make it to the toilet fast enough to vomit in it. I also had terrible migraines quite often when I was younger so she would believe me if i told her I was starting to feel one come on because many times that would lead to the previously mentioned vomiting and not making the toilet.

My DD acts sick a lot in the car. I got to the point I would tell her to puke if she was sick. One day she did. Nothing like cleaning macaroni out of my hair and out of the car. :/ she's 5. I haven't had the fake sickness yet. Right now she loves school.

Well, I was pretty quiet in my misery during class, then wandered in from recess to tell her I felt awful and she was chatting with another teacher. I tried to tell her and she distractedly redirected me outside--I don't think she even heard what I said. When recess was over I bugged her again and she just sent me on my way to the nurse to be checked out. I remember when the nurse told her what was up her face was like
Costa will tell me his stomach hurts when he doesn't want to eat something, but it's hard for me to tell if he's faking or not - last time I thought he was faking he projectile vomited all over him, his car seat, and the back of the passenger seat. whoops.
(he was like "oh mommy, i feel so much better now!")

I'm home with a sick kid right now. She generally loves going to school and I can tell when she broke down in tears yesterday morning that her stomach was killing her. SHe has pretty much been in bed since. We tried having a family dinner last night and she ate 2 bites and then was miserable. I can tell by her eyes and activity level. If she doesn't want to go to cheer and is not bouncing around the house, she doesn't feel good.
