After our great renovations of 2021, I am finally ready to attempt something with our tiny dining room.
We have a 1960s ranch with a sunken living room that is open right next to the dining room (so the dining room essentially has a cliff).
The room is 9 ft x 10’10”
Right now we have an expandable crate and barrel table that my parents had. It is probably 20+ years old.
We use the table daily for a family of 4, and a few times a month have 6, and a few times a year we have 7.
I feel like the space is not optimized, and would love to put in a round expandable table. Room and board had one that is 48”, which seems fine when we mark it on the ground but I think is technically too big for the space. We could orient the chairs so no one falls into the living room. Expanded as an oval would be fine for one meal at a time, I think.
What say you? And can we put a round rug under it? Feel free to link any inspiration!
We have a 48 inch round expanded to 6 ft oval. It fits entirely on a 8x10 rectangular rug with 6 chairs comfortably.
How do you feel about a 42 inch round? I think it might be tight for everyday meals. It’s been awhile since we’ve had ours just as a round so I can’t really picture it with the 4 of us around it and how much space we had left over with 48 inches vs. what 42 would be.
Until yesterday, my family of 4 has eaten 95% of our meals at a 42” round, pedestal table in our small kitchen. It’s small, but fine. We love that table, but it doesn’t fit in the kitchen remodel. If it had more leaves, I’d definitely keep it for the dining room.
My youngest is the same age as your girls and is such a messy eater. We have a rug under the table in a super busy pattern. It has fared better than our living room room rugs have.
