What age? 5-11-year-old boosters were approved in May. Our camps are following contact tracing guidelines of requiring quarantine unless boosted now too.
NO idea what ages a potential omicron-specific booster will be available for in fall though n
Yes, that age group. I know they were approved, but is it recommended for ALL Kids or was it rolled out to certain groups first (like adults). Don't know how I missed this.... TIA.
Yes anyone above age should have at least 1 booster. I know a lot of people don’t trust the cdc anymore but they do have good info about vaccine recommendations, isolation, quarantine, etc. Unfortunately you have to go look for it yourself and messaging isn’t great depending on where you live (where I am there have been ads about boosters for kids).

Shot #1 and booster scheduled for my kiddos this week.
Getting nervous about back to school. I know so many people who’ve had Covid the last few weeks, and we will all be crowded in an auditorium for the inservice days. I’ve avoided it for so long, the thought of catching it for the first day of school is giving me nightmares.
Thanks all- I will see about getting them scheduled ASAP. Got my booster set for Thursday....we've got lots of big plans and travel coming up, then of course school starting in < 1 month, so I'm mostly trying to avoid screwing up any of those plans.

Just got back to the States and was able to schedule covid shot for 4yo, booster for 8yo, and all other vax at the pedi's office at once! Bonus, they had just received their first shipment of Moderna for the little one THAT MORNING! They had no issues doing multiple vax at the same time, and were impressed when I was discussing my preference for one over the other (faster immunity). 8yo has a super sore arm still today, but requested it in her left arm so she can still do her schoolwork, lol. Little one has zero symptoms, though she did happily go to bed and sleep until 7am (she usually fights bedtime and is up at 4:30 or 5 most mornings).
I am starting to feel so much relief that she has at least a little protection.
Sooo…has anyone’s school started talking about Covid protocols for fall? I mean those places that has restrictions (masks, contact tracing, testing, etc in place in the spring). I’m curious to see what we’re going to do and no one seems to be talking about it yet (obvs realize that things can change a lot in a month but it was weird for me to hear that the t pandemic team hadn’t even discussed fall yet in abstract terms)

Not here yet, but we don’t start up again until after Labor Day. I will assume same protocols unless otherwise informed.
erbear I'm in a red city in a blue state. My DS' district will only put in place whatever our Dem gov makes them. Right now it's what the cdc says. Never mind cases are skyrocketing with BA 4 & 5. We're pretending like cases are down to April amounts still (under 10 cases per week) or that covid is over depending on who you talk to.
I'm 100% positive DS will be one of very few wearing a mask when he starts school in roughly a month.

I’m a school nurse in a blue/purple state, and we start back in 3 weeks. I’ve heard exactly zero about our plan. I’m assuming they’ll talk about it during our work week meeting (they were very clear that they wanted us to really take a break this summer and that they would only contact us if necessary), but I have a feeling that all of those things you’re talking about won’t be happening here this school year, with the exception of the state possibly supplying us tests to send home with student when we send them home sick.

I'm the head of our pandemic team at a school in Virginia. We have always aligned with our health dept and they've been great partners. Gov Youngkin just announced updates to the health dept guidelines which we will now (sob) follow. It's pretty much this:
- Positive people should isolate for 5 days, mask until 10 - Exposed people don't have to do anything, even mask, except test if they become symptomatic
The end.
No differentiation for vaccinated or unvaccinated for anything.

Sounds like all of MI since probably March. I'm expecting to hear nothing about covid protocols from our district because people stopped caring about it months ago. I would be shocked if they even enforce quarantines for positive cases unless the health department requires them to

Masks were required through the end of the last school year, so we're pretty cautious. We were notified that masks will be optional this year (though everyone was asked to mask at schedule pick-up today). I'm guessing they will forgo contact tracing. I don't remember what the rules on testing were (it never came up for either kid), but I bet those will go away, too.

There aren’t going to be any in my district. Realistically no one had been in masks at school since March and most people have been acting as usual. Covid numbers were relatively low even with that at the end of the year. It seems like many who hadn’t had Covid have gotten it in the last 5 months. I’m trusting our vaccines and am not panicking.

This kills me a little. I knew it was coming, but damn. We've all escaped it so far, but probably no more.
I can’t decide. In the last two years, we had about a 6 week period (March to April 2022) where we were mask optional and cases spiked. I really don’t want to mask all day for a third year in a row - it’s very difficult to teach in a mask all the time, and every student is vaccinated and boosted. And I want people to be safe. It’s so tough.

Not yet, but we don't start till after Labor Day so I don't expect anything about anything for next year for another couple weeks.
I'm guessing it'll be similar to last year, which I'm fine with. I feel like last year we hit a pretty good balance between all the restrictions and no restrictions at all.
I am in MI and I don't expect to hear...anything. It's 2019 up in here.
I'll send masks with my 4th grader but there is so little benefit to her being 1/600 wearing it so I likely won't force the issue of wearing one at all times. I hope there is a fall booster for kids.
I left teaching in Feb. but I know my district won’t be doing anything. Even when I left in Feb., they had gone to masks optional, no distancing, no restrictions whatsoever. It was like 2019 and that was months ago.

Sooo anyone else have this? My little one got his vax two days ago. Yesterday he was super thirsty and chugging water, which lead to a few almost bathroom emergencies… and he is sweating buckets and it smells terrible. My pajamas were soaked through he’s sweating so much.
Little dude has had a lot of medical stuff in his life so we always get extra stressed about vaccine reactions. Flu shot we always plan for him to stay home sick the next day. But this rancid sweat is a new one…
My kids camp didn't require masks... Yesterday one of the campers tested positive so they are closed today and everyone must test negative to return on Monday. I am perplexed by the camp's response.
And of course, my daughter woke up puking today. She seems so much better 5 hours later, so fingers crossed she just ate something bad.

Is he diabetic? Not a doctor, no experience with diabetes, but feel like I've read that excess thirst and changes in body odor are signs that you should get checked.

My boys got their second doses today. I have no idea how we managed to make it to this point without infection, but I am grateful.
It’s a little disorienting to see this smiling 15 month old running around with his vaccine bandaid peeking out of his shorts. He was just a wish when all this started. Then we stopped trying to conceive because of the unknowns, started again when things calmed down, accepted the possibility there could never be a pediatric vaccine, wore an N95 and face shield for every single shift worked in my pregnancy, had our hopes built up and dashed several times on timelines, argued with my chief medical officer to have equal access to vaccines when they initially rolled out for healthcare workers… it’s been such a long road. I know it’s not over but this felt important. A lot bigger than their first dose. It feels like I’ve been subconsciously holding my breath for two years and I can just breathe.

tacom I feel you. The unpercieved stress has been more than I realized. E got her first shot, and while I know we still need the second, I slept for a ridiculous amount of time for the first time in years. Like my whole body and mind is starting to untense a little.

So what’s the latest data on how you should space your 2nd dose if you catch Covid after your first?
Remember how I was being sassy about delaying my 4yo’s shot when we received an exposure notice literally the day that shots were available in our area? We waited it out, she didn’t catch it and got her 1st Moderna. Two weeks later, she’s Covid + 😭
She’s feeling better now, and is 14 days out from her first day of symptoms. Trying to figure out if we should delay completing the series since her immune system already has a bump, or if we need to do it sooner.
Edit:CDC said that you can get it once your out of isolation, or you “may” wait 3 months. “May” is a weird word to use and I don’t know how to interpret it.

My daughter tested positive last Wednesday. Her second dose is scheduled for this Monday. I am keeping the appointment. I just want it all behind us.

YES!
I fell asleep on the couch last night way before my usual bedtime and slept the best I’ve slept in a very long time.
My kids got their boosters yesterday - school starts in 2 weeks so I figured I’d give them the most protection possible at this point. They had Covid in January but that was so long ago now.
Our mask mandate ended in February. We did not have a big spike in cases and spikes happened whether people were masked or not since our biggest spike was before the mask mandate ended. So I’m not pushing them unless we are sick.
If they continue to do the same: Emails saying someone tested positive in the classroom They claimed close contact tracing but I never saw it Covid school dashboard Vaccinated kids do not have to quarantine. We sent proof of vaccination to the school Shield saliva tests opt in every Tuesday. Vaccinated kids do not get tested. Testing available if the student has symptoms and signed permission from parents. 5 days at home for testing positive then 5 days masked at school.
My 3.5 or old got her second dose last night. She seemed fine all evening, I did give her some.ibuprofen before bed bc she said her leg was hurting where they did the shot. 6am I woke up to her crying and threw up in her bed. She was pretty miserable and threw up again about an hour later, then immediately seemed to feel better. She was tired so we snuggled on the couch a bit and then she slept on me in her rocking chair in her room for a couple more hours. She felt intermittently hot to me during that time and was a little restless/said her tummy hurt a bit more. By 11am thoigh she woke up in much better spirits, and has been good since, eating and playing. So hopefully that's it for what I assume was a vaccine reaction! She had no reaction to first dose, and had a mild case a couple weeks before the first dose. She has never thrown up from vaccinations before, I assume it's just because she had an infection that she is having a stronger reaction today. I'm glad she is fully vaccinated though!
