I've been drowning at work so we watched the MSNBC coverage last night. I just keep thinking how lucky we are that this was pulled off by a bunch of (mostly) incompetent morons; it could have ended very differently if people with any amount of credibility and intellect had gone along with it.

I remember reading in January 2021 that the military generals were all collaborating on how to refuse commands from Trump related to an insurrection. I went off to try to find a reference and came across this distressing op-ed written by 3 generals about the 2024 election:

So what is our minimum threshold for education level and logic for these roles, and how will that impact 1/10 people showing up on 1/6/21 having a military service record? Will it only increase the number in 2024?

Are you talking about commissioned officer roles?

Leadership roles or basic entry roles? Because there is a lot to unpack and idk, you kind of made the military into a monolith, and made some big assumptions about education and it's relationship to why 1/10 people were veterans at the riot.

Just as an example a commissioned officer has to hold at least a bachelor's degree and as officers move up in ranks they often hold higher degrees plus the continued education they get in service.

Michael Flynn holds an BS and an MBA as well as attending the command College, and the naval war college.

Just because you have a high degree of education doesn't mean you can't be sucked into a scam..or be a chucklefuck at heart

I'm not sure I'm tracking what you are trying to say? And maybe you are saying a couple thoughts here, but...

When you say "what is the minimum educational threshold for "these roles?" Just straight enlisted persons. Not all the officers, leaders, and the generals. In fact when I stumbled on that yahoo story I was looking for something I read last year that talked about how the generals rallied together to ensure stability of our government. They were smart, read between the lines, and prevented the action from happening.

About the min education - I was questioning that if the minimum is no longer HS diploma or GED to enter as an enlisted person, will the number of people who are completely uneducated and lacking any kind of training on thinking through things logically increase tremendously? What is the competency assessment to demonstrate minimum literacy/intelligence levels? Maybe the ASVAB covers that concern? I only know of it as a career-fit test, but does it test competency or are there are similar measures?

I like to tell myself that it is backwards, uneducated, illogical people who would believe that the election was stolen and therefore go to the riot. A lot of the video recordings are of individuals who fit this characterization and reinforce my bias/desired belief. But the reality is also that really calculated and heinous people were also part of it and had other motives (white supremacy, etc).

I'm constantly amazed as I learn of more and more people who reveal they believed the stolen election stories. Most people I know were vocal about believing it was ridiculous to believe that. And I'm not in a liberal bubble. I'm dismayed to consider that maybe the people who never said anything at all largely believed it was possible. And right or wrong, my biased reaction to that is, "are they really that foolish?" Thanks for making me check myself and my bias.

I know they had said Cassidy had a trumpy
lawyer and got a non trumpy one. So am sure there are others who did the same so that’s a guess that they did that because they want to speak. It’s gonna be hard to prove tampering at least from what the tv lawyer analysts said.

I can't say much, but this is already backfiring big time and my work is being tasked with some stuff to try and fix the gap because the recruits coming in, there's a reason they don't have a diploma or GED.

I don't know if they can quickly go back though.
