I ordered a chandelier for our dining room from Shades of Light back in November 2021, that originally had a March or April 2022 shipping timeframe. Spring 2022 became July 2022, and I just now got an email that the latest updated ship date is 11/7/2022. By the time it arrives, if it arrives, it would be a full year wait.
I know supply chains are wonky right now, but it is no longer available on their site, and I actually had to go back to a pin on my Pinterest board to find a pic of it:
I can't find it anywhere on their website, Google, etc., even with the item name, item #, etc. That really does not seem promising. Unfortunately I haven't found anything anywhere that I like as much, especially for the fairly reasonable (IMO) price point of $300. Has anyone seen anything similar? And at what point would you give up on this coming and cancel it?
That does look the same! But it is showing as unavailable, there and other places I'm now searching the product name. The actual brand's site says it's discontinued. That actually makes me more mad at Shades of Light than I was before. If it's not coming, just tell me, stop pushing the date out by months at a time!
I've looked at a bunch of different lighting sites, along with Pottery Barn and West Elm, and haven't found anything I like as much, and the thing I like "best" of what's around, is like 4 times the price. Womp womp.
I'm looking for a relatively traditional candle style chandelier, with a black finish, no glass, no shades, no drum, and no crystal. I don't want the candle sticks to be black, though, which rules out a surprising number (and is hard to filter out). The general aesthetic I'm looking for is kind of graceful, airy, and lightweight, with some kind of update on just the builder basic candle style.
I mean, I guess it helps me not spend money... but the light in there now is the random brushed nickel light that had been in the kitchen, and we took down to put up one we specifically chose. We hung it up after the dining room was wired, thinking it would just be for a few months while we waited for delivery. It doesn't match anything, and while it's not terrible, it's not something I'd have chosen.
Eventually I'll have to find something but for now I am just annoyed. I have wanted *this* chandelier for years, since before we bought this house, but our old DR was too small for it. If Shades of Light had just been straight with me 8 months ago, I probably would have stood a much better chance back then of finding it from another retailer. There's a 4-light linear version still available, along with single light wall sconces
but IDK exactly where I'd choose to put sconces to augment, and 4 lights is definitely not enough for the ~12x16 room. I think I need to totally start over.
You could put a sconce on either side of the buffet table. I think having several layers of light is nice even if the chandelier was a 6 light. Our living turned dining room is 11'7" x 17'5" and we went with a 6 candle 32" chandelier and then we put 4 recessed lights in (one in each corner of the room). Both are on dimmers so we can tailor the light level from homework to Monopoly to dinner party.
I think the drum light is nice and would look good with the sconces if you decide to do both. For some reason I'm not feeling the linear style with your room. Maybe it feels too contemporary for the carpet and the buffet?
which I guess is sort of a dupe of the Pottery Barn Lucca which was both out of budget and way too large for our 8' ceiling-ed room. But it has black candles which you said you were trying to avoid!
I wonder if there is a way to change out the candle part to color you want or if there are covers you could put over to make them white? Surely you are not the first person to have this problem. If there are covers, it sounds like that would open up a lot more options.

You would think! But I am not sure.
At one point in my life, I would have just spray painted them. Our last house had a terrible brass and wood chandelier that I spray painted with rustoleum hammered metal paint, and then used for a decade+.
With this house I'm trying to do a slightly more upscale job though, lol.
I emailed Shades of Light this week, in response to their email pushing the ship date from July to November:

Hi, I’m following up on the order below. This order was originally placed in November 2021. The ship date has been pushed out three times now, to a full year from the original order. As I recall, you took payment for the light at the time of order, even though it was not in stock. It has never been in stock since last November, and is no longer offered on shadesoflight.com.
Can you explain why you’re still pushing the ship date out by 3-4 months at a time rather than just cancelling the order and refunding the purchase price? It does not appear that this chandelier is ever coming, and I would appreciate your honesty if that is the case.
Thank you,
--
They responded saying it's still coming:

Thank you for your continued support and please let me know if you have any questions.

This doesn't seem... plausible to me? That orders on a discontinued item would continue to be shipped from the manufacturer?
I still really love the chandelier, and it's about 1/3 or less of the price of most substitutes that I'm looking at. OTOH, this seems super fishy to me. If the chandelier was still available, at least from the manufacturer, I'd sigh and say ok, 4 more months, or I'd cancel and order from somewhere else. It just seems unlikely to me that the manufacturer still has, or will have shipping-delayed discontinued product 4 months from now.
A few months back, I ordered new dining chairs for the kitchen + DR, and they will have a different look than the hodge podge that's in the DR now: (the ones without arms)
I am hoping the chair order will be delivered before Christmas. The right answer is probably to wait until the chairs come, see if this chandelier ever comes, and if/when it doesn't, then make a decision on a different, inevitably more expensive chandelier based on what the DR looks like then.

It’s definitely possible. Due to material delays/ shortages, factories are really backlogged. They may do what they need to and finish the orders they have, but discontinue it because prices/ lead times for materials are too ridiculous.
SOL just called and left me a voicemail telling me that the vendor had discontinued the chandelier (yes...) and they were going to cancel my order. I figured that would be the case, but now it's final.
I hadn't cancelled the order yet only because I figured I'd leave the door open as long as possible, while I hadn't yet made a final decision on an alternative.
They are willing to give me a discount on another chandelier for my 8 months of waiting in vain, if I can pick something from what they have.
ETA: I got an email with the discount code today, it's only 10%. I'm kinda underwhelmed.

That sucks! But I’m glad they finally came clean and cancelled your order. And the discount is only helpful if they have something else you like. Finding lighting can be so hard; good luck!
