The vote on the constitutional amendment that would remove the current right to an abortion happens tomorrow. A yes vote paves the way for the legislature to ban abortion. A no vote upholds our current restrictions (which are extensive but abortions are still legal up to 22 weeks).
It could go either way and the far right group is now sending out tweets to voters saying a yes vote is how you save reproductive rights. Just straight up lying. Secretary of State said they can't do anything because it's freedom of speech to lie during elections.
I’m so nervous. I really hope there is a blue wave that send a message to other states that taking away our reproductive freedom is going to get Dem voters to the polls in force and Rs will lose because of that… but I know it’s going to be tough in Kansas.
I need to find something to do with my nervous energy. I hardly slept last night over this and some other stuff.
I reached out personally to I think 65 friends and about 50% voted early. Many are voting today but I know some will not bother to vote which drives me absolutely mad. In 2020 99% of the folks on my list voted. And this primary election is more important!!!

I hate this shit so much.
Several years ago before Obergefell, groups in WA state were trying to get pro and anti gay marriage initiatives on the ballot. My mom, so proud to show support for her bi daughter, texted me to say she had proudly signed the petition from the "Equal Rights, Not Special Rights" group. <facepalm> She had no idea it was the anti-gay marriage group.
I worked the polls at a location in my blue county. Turnout was INSANE. Waaaaay more than even came out for the 2020 election. Lots of unaffiliated voters who came just to vote on the amendment. I think that’s a good sign. But of course there’s like 4 blue counties in Kansas so we’ll see how the rest of the state showed up.

I’m literally crying. Incredible. Thank you much to pugz and all the other Kansan board members who organized to turn out the vote on this. You made such a difference not just to your state but for folks in surrounding states as well.

I’ve done a fair amount of ballot initiative work in many different states and I cannot overstate how much of a bellwether votes like this are. If the first stab at a vote like this fails it absolutely will have a chilling effect on the folks funding and promoting these initiatives elsewhere. If they pass it puts some really dangerous wind in the sails. This was an incredibly important vote for that reason even aside from the critical issue at stake.

I love this state but may hate it tomorrow.
I hope you didn’t doubt for a minute that I was voting! Also, I’m not feeling good yet. Johnson Co always reports early and they’re likely heavy no, as are the early voters. I won’t feel comfortable until much later.

NPR reports 83.1% of votes are counted, 62.5-37.5%, if that helps you. 🙌
