Not a dumb question. As I understand it, companies don't actually save texts, just to/from numbers (unless they are uploaded to apple cloud or something - not an apple user so might be making that up). If the phones are wiped without the texts being backed up somewhere then they are probably gone.

Can I ask another dumb question? Is it only J6 texts that are missing, or was the White House detail/the wider Secret Service generally operating in disregard of information preservation protocols? (I'm thinking of the reports of Trump tearing up papers before throwing them in the trash and documents flushed down the WH toilets)
