I just have to say that I was in the final round of an interview with a private high school outside of Philly this week, and in this interview for a college counseling position, they asked me why this year was the first year they had two girls commit to the University of Alabama, and I hate that I knew it was because they saw it on Tik Tok, but maybe this will get me the job. lol
I haven’t watched the documentary but from what I’ve heard is it’s probably really similar to where my DH and I went to college (U of AR). We both were Greek and both had really great experiences. It is definitely intense and definitely $$$ which H didn’t have to worry about but I was always scraping by.
There’s definitely negative parts to it like all things but our experience was overall more positive and I’m glad I experienced it. All of my BFFE I met through living in the house.
Also the houses at UofA have all been updated in the last several years and they are insane. They were all beautiful when I was there in early 2000’s but they are definitely next level.
Our house was more diverse than some others and when I see their SM it appears they have kept that up which is great. We also had a zero hazing policy and I’ve always heard from other friends that the other houses were the same but they played up the dramatic parts just as rumors. Like, they were things that definitely happened a long time ago but I remember Panhellenic being very strict if they heard of anything and they’d shut a house down very quick. But we definitely did no hazing.
Rush is a crazy experience and there were a few parts looking back on that I’m like wtf but I saw just as crazy and wtf things when I lived in the dorms freshman year (don’t live in the house until sophomore year). College was just a wild time.
I’d encourage my daughter to give it a chance. She’s also young though so who knows what it will look like by the time she goes to college.
I watched it and honestly it just made me sad. I’m not a fan of Greek life at all - I find it all pretty gross TBH. My school had fraternities but no sororities and DH went to a very big greek school (he did not participate) . I hope my boys don’t want to participate when they go to college
I watched and it was the weirdest documentary I’ve seen. The director inserting herself into the story was so incredibly bizarre.
It was really odd.
I wonder if the girls who were interviewed got in trouble with their sororities. And I’m also curious how they got all the footage given how against the documentary “the machine” was. I really felt for the girl who wanted acceptance and love so badly…like it was heartbreaking. And the girl whose father was a police officer, there was something just not 100% there about wanting to be in the sorority: I’m glad she dropped out and will find her own way.

I tried tonight but got fed up about halfway in. It was just really weird with the director making it about her. Having gone to a uni in the deep south that was something like 65% greek, there was nothing particularly new or interesting to me. I didn't rush, but most of my friends did.
Annoyingly I watched with someone who's never been to the US but fancies himself an expert on all things. And very very wrong in his southsplaining to me. Between him and the director and having to do a 24hr fast, nope. I'm way to hangry for that.

I think you might have interviewed at my alma mater! They had two commitments to Alabama this year, and I have NEVER seen anyone commit there before.

As a former NPC chapter's foundation director, I'll bet one million monopoly dollars that every NPC chapter on that campus were threatened within an inch of their lives by their HQs to not participate in this documentary upon pain of death.

This. A sister chapter had a girl get accepted to the Real World and an alum of our chapter was on the advisory team and basically HQ said she couldn't mention her affiliation at all, not to mention the MTV contract was pretty shady as well.

She does mention that they were likely silenced by the Panhellenic council on campus, and yet, she kept filming… nothing.
I have no desire to watch this so I'm just going to put my question here for anyone who has watched. Do they mention any specific sororities and , if so, do you know if they mentioned Alpha Delta Pi?

They didn't call anyone out specifically, at least not in the half I watched, but they made no effort to hide or blur the shirts or houses. I saw my sister's, gramma's, and some friends' houses represented. I don't remember that one specifically, but I wasn't really watching all that closely.
