Finished: One True Loves by Taylor Jenkins Reid I thought the premise was interesting but in the end found it pretty disappointing. The main character was annoying and it was really clear from the start who she was going to end up with.
Dead Voices by Katherine Arden This series is designed for middle schoolers but I have found them to to be quite good. The characters are well developed and the books are creepy but not dark.
Kismet by Amina Akhtar I enjoyed this a lot more than expected. I really liked the send up of the Sedona metaphysical community and loved the ravens as a main character. It even managed to throw in a few small twists at the end that made sense and didn't piss me off!
All the Tides of Fate by Adalyn Grace I didn't enjoy this as much of the first book but it was fine and wrapped everything up on a satisfactory way.
Currently Reading: Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin I'm only about a quarter of the way in but loving it so far.
QOTW: MH has a movie he has seen a million times before on in the background pretty frequently but I would say we sit down and really intentionally watch a movie about once a week. Pre-COVID we'd go to the movies about once a month and we're slowly getting back to this. We'll really only go see action movies or other films designed for the big screen and save everything else for streaming.
I was going to say it was a slow week but I guess it wasn’t. Just a slow couple of days.
He's Gone by Deb Caletti (ok)
Just Like Home by Sarah Gailey (I added her to my list of authors I think I like but actually don’t)
Paper Girls: Deluxe Edition Book One Brian K. Vaughan, Cliff Chiang, Matt Wilson, Jared K. Fletcher, and Dee Cunniffe
No Exit by Taylor Adams (bad)
Paper Girls: Deluxe Edition Book Two by Brian K. Vaughan, Cliff Chiang, Matt Wilson, Jared K. Fletcher, and Dee Cunniffe (the show is so much better!)
The New Neighbor by Karen Cleveland (cute idea but badly done)
One's Company by Ashley Hutson (bizarre but good)
QOTW: I used to go to the movies several times a month, sometimes several times a week! We still have Netflix DVD so we watch a fair amount of movies. Neither of us are interested in blockbuster type movies 90% of the time and it’s hard to find other movies to see in the theater in more recent years.
I finished A Thousand Splendid Suns, 5* and While Paris Slept by Ruth Drurt, 3.5*. I have added all of Khaled Housseini's other books to my TBR pile since I have loved everything I have read thus far. I will start The Possible World by Liese O'Halloran Schwarz tonight.
QOTW: We watch a lot of movies in our house, especially ever since Covid. Friday is usually pizza and movie night for us. The kids prefer the movie theater so whenever there is something that they really want to see we will watch it in theater, but I love the fact that is so much easier to watch new movies at home now.
I finished Tell the Wolves I’m Home, which was a reread but I didn’t remember it at all. Really loved it this time. Now reading The Stone Diaries — 1995 Pulitzer winner, which I’ve owned for quite a while but never actually read. Slow going so far but I think I’ll like it.
QOTW: I have a looonnnnnng list of movies we should watch but we just never do. We’ll see movies in the theater once or twice a year. Clearly not a movie family!

Finished The Lifestyle which was a quick easy read.
Currently reading Unlikely Animals, which is quirky and I'm really enjoying. Listening to The Five Wounds which is just meh.
QOTW: How often do you watch movies? Go see movies? I used to watch a lot more before my youngest was born, now I rarely have the time or energy, except for weekly movies with the kids. So I'm up to date on my animated movies, but way behind on anything with adult content.
I finished White Ivy last night. Do not recommend. I kept waiting for something to happen and the character is not likeable.
I’ve also been reading The Nineties by Klausterman, some interesting nuggets in it.
QOTW: we try to do a show/movie every Friday night as a family, but most have been shows lately. We mostly go see movies with the kids, and I’ve been a few times this summer.
Finished Local Woman Missing by Mary Kubica. It was not bad except for a few details and a rushed ending.
Started Beautiful World, Where Are You by Sally Rooney.
QOTW: Maybe twice a month. I prefer documentaries or YouTube videos (cooking, and hiking/camping videos). Haven’t been to the movies in more than 3 years.
Just finished The Last Mrs Parrish. I really liked it! I spent the first half of the book just hating Amber. Then the rest of it hating her even more, lol. I enjoyed the ending!
Not sure yet what I'm going to read next. Anyone have a good way to pick? I'm not really in a particular "mood" so I'm up for anything, and I have a ton that I can't wait to read, but can't decide which one to pick! I'm considering entering them into some randomizer thing to pick!
QOTW: I'm not much of a movie person. People are always surprised when I tell them I haven't seen popular movies. We barely go to the theater because it's so expensive and the closest theater is at least a 30 min drive. So we maybe go 2-3 times a year or so. We will usually see any Star Wars movies in theater, maybe a Marvel one if my H talks me into it (I like the movies, I'm just not overly invested in them). @@ Then maybe one or two with the kids. Other than that, H is the one constantly watching movies while I just half listen in the background!

A couple years ago when I couldn't decide what to read I started reading the oldest book on my TBR list. It felt good to get through the books that had been on my TBR list for many years. I'm still generally reading the oldest book on my TBR list.

When I can't decide what to read, I read my TBR list by author's last name alphabetically. That ends up giving me a mix of older and newer books.
