I'm surprised this hasn't been posted here at all in the past week. The Democrats in the Senate have accomplished an amazing feat by passing this piece of legislation as a reconciliation bill, the only way to do this with a 50-50 Senate. After pulling an all-nighter this weekend to vote on a long list of amendments (including several from Sen Sanders who was the only one to vote in favor of his, super helpful), VP Kamala Harris cast the tie-breaker vote. The bill represents the largest climate investment in US history and for the first time gives Medicare the power to negotiate drug prices.

I was going to post but I was just too sad. I canβt believe they left Medicaid expansion out of the package. I mean, I can, because it is just like Democrats to abandon poor people of color in the south while propping up affordability of private insurance for the middle class. But fuck.
Shoutout to Sen Warnock for his failed effort to redeem the party during vote a rama. We do not deserve him.
Looks like the insulin cap didn't pass, though. 43 nays, all Rs. Assholes.
I thought it passed for Medicare, but not private insurance. Still assholes.
Correct. Parliamentarian ruled it out for private market plans for procedural reasons (not permissible per reconciliation rules, would require 60 votes to pass and they fell short by just a few.)
