It's that time again. What have you been reading this week?
QOTW: If you had to spend 6 months totally alone and you could only bring one book series with you to read, what would you choose? Is it something you've read before or something that would be new to you?
I’m rereading Wanderers by Chuck Wendig — the sequel comes out this fall, plus I needed a non-mindless page turner.
QOTW: this is hard! I am trying to think of a series with a lot of books or with longer books, but also one I wouldn’t mind rereading, because six months is a long time. Maybe Louise Penny’s Inspector Gamache books, but I’m not sure.
You're Invited by Amanda Jayatissa (love the locale)
All Good People Here by Ashley Flowers (good but a little cliffhanger)
Grocery Shopping with my Mother by Kevin Powell (more pop culture-y than expected)
Apple Crush by Lucy Knisley (cute, I always think her parents are the worst though)
Hokuloa Road by Elizabeth Hand (I felt like the ending was kind of rushed after a long set up)
Dear Fran, Love Dulcie: Life and Death in the Hills and Hollows of Bygone Australia Published by Victoria Twead (I have so many thoughts)
QOTW: This is tough because I am not a re-reader and don’t read a lot of series books anymore. Maybe the Sue Grafton alphabet books? My mom did that and really liked reading them back to back vs one every year or two.

Finished The Age of Light. It was ok. I loved the photography bits. I took photography in high school and loved developing my own film! The story itself was ok. I disliked the main character, and the different timeline versions of her seemed like totally different people.
I'm maybe 3/4 the way through Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe. I don't mind it, but so far I'm not sure about the hype. We'll see how it ends!
QOTW: I don't go for series that often, but I've considered it. I'd probably go with something I haven't read before, or the GoT series. I only read the first and part of the second book, so it would be nice to finish it!
Qotw: Something new (I don't reread books), lengthy since that's a long time, and also enjoyable. Outlander comes to mind, but I've already read it so something similar.
Earlier this week I finished More than You'll Ever Know by Katie Gutierrez, This was a hard one to rate. There are dual narrators and two main storylines. One was interesting and well done. The other was annoying and idiotic (both the character and the plot). I guess I have to give the author credit for writing point of views that actually sound different? So many other dual narrator books fail miserably at this.
Then I started Two Nights in Lisbon by Chris Pavone. I only made it 4 chapters in before giving up. There was least one reference every two pages to the main character's oh so mysterious and dramatic past. I have no patience for this and knew I would end up hating it. It's too bad because I read and enjoyed some of his earlier books.
Next I picked up Acts of Violet by Margarita Montimore. I haven't made it very far but I am already enjoying a lot more than the Pavone book.
QOTW: I think I would pick the Wheel of Time series. I've never read it and it looks long enough to keep me busy for a while. Plus I think it's actually completed unlike many other series that seem to drag on forever.
I actually finished a book this week! Bad Dreams and Other Stories by Tessa Hadley. I really like her attention to detail, it helps me visualize what she’s talking about. I’ve read a couple of other books by her in the past (including The Past) and thought the short stories would be good chunks for reading on the train.
If I could only take one series for 6 months I’d probably take an encyclopedia set so I could learn something. That’s probably not what you meant though. 😝
I finished My Autobiography of Carson McCullers by Jenn Shapland (4 stars) and I'm reading Summer of '69 by Elin Hilderbrand.
QOTW: I'd like something new and long. Wheel of Time, maybe? But I'd also hate to bring something that I would end up hating (I read the first Outlander book, sure it was totally up my alley, and hated it). So maybe A Song of Ice and Fire since that would keep me occupied.
