Today is the deadline to sign up to run for our school board. The racist and idiotic are coming out of the woodwork. Below is part of the platform of one candidate. When schools here resumed in person classes with masks he sent his oldest to school maskless for 2 weeks with a note that said "I will not wear a mask. If you have a problem with that call my Daddy". The school did call every day and sent him home every day. Considers masking kids a form of child abuse. Goes to every school board meeting to discuss the "porn" in our libraries....There is a former, retired teacher opposing him. I will be campaigning hard for this former teacher to win.
It's so scary how the crazies are taking over school boards and town governments. The hoards are so threatening that it also scares away any sensible people from wanting to run because they know that the racists will make their lives hell.

There is a group Purple for Parents Indiana that want to ruin public schools and get everyone to either homeschool or send their kids to a private Christian school. Supposedly another person running for our board is a card carrying member of that hate group.

Teacher attraction 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 no teacher worth shit would be remotely interested in anything you have to say.
I’m scared for education in this country, because I think this is only Scene 1, Act 1.
I really wish people(not on here — in general) had been paying to school boards for the last 5 years. This trend into the absurd has picked up speed and it’s really impacting how we teach and how kids are experiencing school (even before the pandemic). It’s ‘not good.

Yes!! I've always voted for school board, but now that I have school aged kids I'm even more interested. Here it's hard to tell what people are really for. They run on bland campaigns of keeping kids safe and boosting school rankings. I'm in FL and Desantis started endorsing some school candidates so that made it much easier to figure out who I wasn't voting for! I was still very disappointed that out of 5 school races, 4 went to ultra right, Desantis backed candidates. Overall only about 19% of of our population actually voted.

I helped campaign for our trustee four years ago - his wife is a teacher at our school, he's served the community very well, actively engaged in community events. He had two right wing nutters running against him but one recently dropped out. The remaining one is... something else. She showed up at our Back to School night with flyers and was talking to parents despite not living in our community nor having a child attending the school. Its a red flag when they run as a "Parent Rights Advocate." They launched a county PAC to put conservatives on our school board that skews heavily religious (coming out of CA's lockdowns).

My cousin is running for school board in her area. She has a FB page with two other candidates, which seems to be a theme because I've seen that around here too. The FB page has bible quotes and lots of talk about Christianity and God. Her husband is a crazy conspiracy theorist MAGAt who is/was running for state house? Senate? Can't remember. In an article I saw, she was all in on the "parents know better" and "parents should be able to object to things against their beliefs". At the bottom of the article, there is a link to another article saying she opposes the "hyper focus on race and gender". FFS, how am I related to her??? I've been playing nice and seeing that side of the family for Christmas mostly because of my grandparents (my grandpa died last year, grandma is doing mostly well, although she's absolutely gone down some conspiracy rabbit holes thanks to some of her neighbors). I don't know if I can do it anymore.

Good luck to you. DeSantis is about to run schools in Florida into the ground and I’m not sure there’s a lot that can be done to change it in the immediate :/
