So I’m not calling it done because there is still a lot of decor work to do, but the construction is finished! Thanks for everyone’s advice through the project. The main goals were to create a usable family hang out area and a kitchenette. We decided to go with a low-cost remodel vs. moving walls, plumbing, redoing the bathroom. We hired out title work, painting, electrical, new carpeting, and then all the cabinetry. We had built ins before but they really divided the space, blocked the light, and they were 30” deep — way too deep to be functional. The new space is much brighter and cohesive. Decor plans include painting a canvas the exact size of the TV, adding more art work and picture frame lights, and doing more styling of counters and shelves. So excited to have this space to hang now!
We’re planning on some navy in our basement remodel too! Where did you get the sectional? That’s the biggest item we need to get nailed down soon, so we can enjoy it.

It’s from Macys and while it’s pretty affordable I don’t love it — the back is very low and I feel like I have to vacuum it constantly! But it has a good look. The tile is actually blue slate and the bookcases are BM gentlemen’s grey — more of a green/blue. I’m hoping to replace the couch with something leather after the kids destroy it!
