I was interested in how his legacy would be written. It seems mixed. To me, that mixed feelings for his legacy seems odd in that unleashing democracy for his own county and independence for so many other seems … tarnished.
I learn every day, to my amazement, that folks don’t really love democracy as much as a billionaire fascist pretending to be ‘on their side’.
I started reading the WPs article right before I left the office. It was really long and I ended up leaving late 😂
But really, reading it brought so many thoughts up. The existential dread of the Cold War. The fascination I had with Russia back then (I did a summer governors school focused on Russia in 1990). Memories of the Cold War falling. On top of that, I’m 2/3 of the way through a rewatch of The Americans.

I feel like I knew, and was surprised, that he was alive only because of a fairly recent headline about his illness deteriorating pretty severely. Like, only a month or two ago.
