Miss America 2018 Cara Mund is running for the lone House of Representatives seat in her home state of North Dakota as an independent candidate, if she can get the required 1,000 signatures to get on the ballot in November.
Any crackpot can run as an independent, that's not newsworthy in and of itself, but the (pro-life, WTAF eew) Democratic candidate just dropped out of the race.
Signatures are due Sep 6 to get her on the ballot so watch this space. I hope the incumbent dick hole Congressman Armstrong is shaking in his boots.

I'm not as plugged into ND politics as I was when I lived just across the border. Does she have a shot? I know ND is really, really red but I also remember when their Congressional representation was super blue.

Good question. That's why I want the news to pick it up an analyze it for me!
Yes NoDak is really red but that [rural] part is old and dying. Fargo is pretty young, and presumably bluer, so hopefully that would be enough to tip it in the right direction. The same goes for all the other college towns.
Nothing could be worse than the status quo so I'm inclined to be hopeful, despite her interning for a Republican previously when she had the option of a Democrat right within the state. A calculated move on her part is my guess, with a long view on getting into politics in her own red state.
ksun all I know is she's pro-choice. And a (super) recent Harvard Law grad. Has to be better than the current terrible old white man, surely!
An entirely uninteresting and unimportant state I realize, with one measly House seat, but I wanted to get this thread started to drag up in the future if/when things get interesting.

I’ll be honest, her campaign irritates me. Ok she’s pro choice. But she doesn’t seem to have a single other policy position aside from “I agree with Democrats on some stuff and with Republicans on some stuff.”
Voters in ND are in a tough place with this bc even as a one issue candidate she is likely better than their current representation but I’m not sure I’d actually vote for her without at bare minimum an assurance that she isn’t a proponent of genocide against trans folks. WHICH issues she agrees with Republicans on is a major sticking point to me.
