93% of abortions happen before 13 weeks. The Evangelical base absolutely believes in zero abortions. The Dems messaging needs to drive home that Lindsay’s bill would still allow 93% of abortions to happen.
That’s horrible messaging. Every time we put restrictions and exceptions on abortion it favors antis and increases stigma. Dems have had horrible messaging on abortion and we shouldn’t be ok with that just because their democrats.
In addition, that is an old statistic and with more states banning abortion more and more people are having abortions later in pregnancy because if they can’t or don’t want to access the pills at home they’re traveling and that takes time and money.
Yes. And keep in mind any Republican-sponsored legislation will only restrict, it will not affirmatively protect abortion up to 15 weeks. Red states would continue to have even stricter bans and then there would be nowhere in the country to access an elective abortion after 15 weeks.

Right? Hell no, Dems should not be running any messaging like that.
It needs to be shouted from the rooftops. This isn't a bill protecting abortion up until 15 weeks. It's barring it after 15 weeks nationwide, andplusalso please feel free to ban it entirely on a state by state basis if you so choose. It isn't ALLOWING anything.

The ones that happen after 15 weeks are often ones that will cause a lot of trauma if denied -- people who find out at the anatomy scan that their baby has a condition that will cause severe disabilities or is incompatible with life.
Or ones that will cause death to the pregnant person. "Exceptions for the health of the mother" is a bullshit exception -- we've already seen doctors hesitate when there are pregnancy complications -- how much danger does the pregnant person have to be in before they can get an abortion? And the closer they are to death, the harder it is to save their life.
Throughout the segment, Graham kept returning to a similar idea: that his 15-week ban proposal was comparable to abortion restriction laws in some European nations (this isn’t true), while suggesting that some blue states widening abortion access in the wake of Roe are actually adopting a “Chinese abortion policy.”
China, all MAGA Republicans know, is Bad.
“I don’t want to be China, I don’t want to be North Korea when it comes to the unborn,” he said.
“I’m rejecting China,” he added again a few minutes later, “California is adopting — and Oregon — Chinese abortion policy.”
He made similar remarks a few days ago on “Fox News Sunday,” comparing Democrats’ push to protect abortion access to abortion laws supposedly in place in China and North Korea.

I feel like he's referencing China's one child policy, which was repealed a while ago and they are actually scrambling to try to make up the population shortfall in the next generation.
