After 10 yrs, our dishwasher is not doing well (not draining, sort of cleaning?). We need a new one now. We're like ~2 years from a kitchen reno, so I'd like a dishwasher we can use again.
I'm eying a Miele, like their bottom of the line. I don't have a kitchen design yet, but I *think* I prefer a cabinet panel on the front. Has anyone done this? I'm reading reviews that suggest I may need to buy a cheap door from Ikea until we have actual cabinets for a new kitchen (like in the interim 2 years) b/c the panel-ready Miele will look awful and the spring will be tense for the weight of a cabinet door.
Am I overthinking this, should I just buy a cheaper SS dishwasher and cross this bridge when the renovation happens?
have you checked to make sure your current washer isn't just clogged. Often times something like a glass will break and block the drainage.
Yeah, I've cleaned the filter, and I don't think it's a clog. It will drain it just doesn't as part of the cleaning cycle, I have to manually tell it to drain (usually several times) before it finally does. We've lost normal wash, pots & pans, and are down to delicate or something. I might limp along a little longer, but its definitely not making the big reno. I'd like a new one heading into the holidays.
I've spent a lot of time looking at RE listings in the last 2 years, and I have felt like the high end kitchens with appliances with cabinet panels, actually looked more dated than those with your basic, clean lines, stainless steel panels. Most often it was Sub Zero fridges, but dishwashers too. High end, yes, but definitely dated. It kind of turned me off the idea of cabinet panels on appliances. It's probably better when they're *your* cabinet panels, not what a prior owner chose, so they're exactly to your taste. In that instance they probably would not seem to you like a dated choice, but the impression stuck with me. With a dishwasher in particular, I think I'd also be wary of a cabinet panel over an appliance that releases steam. My dishwasher always seems to be wet, or steamy, or drippy, or fingerprinty, or all of those, and I like keeping that mess on stainless steel which I can clean completely and without worry.
All of that is to say: I have very apparent biases, but I would be happy to keep the stainless steel Bosch that we bought last year if we redid the kitchen during its lifetime (which we probably will). We went with a 500 series, which is mid-level for Bosch. I haven't had occasion or need to look at higher end than Bosch, so no experience with Miele.
I used to have one with a cabinet panel. I think it was a Bosch but it’s been a while so I don’t remember. I’d buy what you want now and try to live with it as-is (if possible) until you get your new doors. My dishwasher destroyed my first floor and basement because it didn’t drain so I wouldn’t wait unless you want an insurance funded kitchen. (Pro- cheap. Con- I’ve been 3m with no kitchen and there’s no end in sight)

I wouldn’t want the hassle of dealing with a interim cabinet face and committing to cabinet face in the final reno. I’d probably go with a cheaper dishwasher now (maybe not even SS if that would save $$) and plan to replace it with the reno.
Bosch over Miele every day. Have had both and prefer Bosch.
they both get great reviews- I was planning Bosch but my friend and her parents both had terrible experiences with them. But I guess that could happen with anything. The low end Miele and Bosch panel ready are the same price.
As I sit here with a growing to do list…. I might just go with ss bc I don’t have the desire to tackle this panel stuff.
I hate when timing doesn’t line up. We had to replace our cheapo electric range a couple years ago too.

In your situation I would probably just get the SS that you want and put a panel on it when you do your kitchen. Why commit to a panel that you may decide later isn't what you want for a full kitchen, you know?
We did a kitchen reno last year and I decided to just keep the SS appliances as-is and not do the panels. We bought all new appliances except for a dishwasher because we had one that was 4 years old. It has now gone out and I reached out to our local appliance store (that is absolutely fabulous) and the guy I deal with explained the difference between the Bosch and Miele. The lowest end Miele is what we were looking at, too, and it doesn't have heated dry. Plastic items, especially, come out wet. He said the Bosch 800 and bottom Miele are very similar in terms of durability, but the Bosch 800 has heated crystal dry technology and a few more bells and whistles that we may want. Ours is being delivered on Tuesday.
One other thing to note: he said Bosch is not delivering the 800 models to big box stores anymore; only smaller appliance retailers. Bosch is having a hell of a time keeping up with demand and their supply is very low right now. I ordered just one month ago and it is coming now because our retailer (ABT for those in the Chicago area) has a special relationship with Bosch. Just FYI if you start looking and can't find one.
We have a newish Miele. I hate it. When we get around to redoing our kitchen, we’ll replace it, despite the fact that there’s nothing “wrong” with it. There is very, very little that I like about it.

This. I couldn't figure out how to say this in a constructive way. Well put.

Clearly personal preferences abound! We had a Miele in our last 2 houses. We put a Bosch in this house because it was cheaper and we hate it. Would love to have our Miele back!
I just bought the Bosch 800 from Lowes last month but maybe that’s a new change?
He just said something like “going forward Bosch won’t be selling the 800 model out of big box retailers”. I ordered about a month ago.
We just spent 2 months trying to get a Bosch dishwasher. We ordered a 100 from Home Depot, then Best Buy, and then when the Best Buy install guys showed up the 5th time, without the dishwasher and Best Buy told me they couldn’t deliver one until Oct 18th, I finally cancelled the order and found the 800 in stock at a local store. They delivered and installed within 4 days of placing the order. I love the 800 so far, it’s quiet, has room for everything, and seems to get the dishes really clean and dry.

Yay! I can’t wait to get mine tomorrow. We had a GE previously and it was fine, but so many people rave about the Bosch.
I had a SS Miele in my last house, and I loved it! It was quiet, efficient, and easy to load. I had one with a built-in water softener (salt reservoir), which I think was extra helpful in Indiana with super hard water.

It may be an easy repair. When I was having issues with my dishwasher sounding super loud the quote to replace the drain motor was only like $100. I ended up not replacing since it was still working just nearing the end of its life.
