Ron DeSanris says that no one questioned slavery before the American revolution- with all of the enlightened ideals that it brought. And we should stop being woke in saying America is anything but super fantastic.
“No one had questioned it [slavery] before we decided as Americans that we are endowed by our creator with unalienable rights and that we are all created equal,” DeSantis said.
Because it didn’t occur to him (or apparently anyone on his staff) that the enslaved people questioned it pretty fucking hard. Fought against it, rebelled, ran away, suffered, was punished fighting it, died fighting it, cried, prayed, begged, bought their way out of it, died trying to get out of it. How STUPID do you have to be to PREPARE remarks like this?

I don't think it's stupid; it's politically expedient. It feeds a narrative that is way older than his time in office. They love to point out William Wilberforce was anti-slavery and a Christian. Which apparently means all Christians were abolitionists. I know I saw that in a fundie history book when my aunt briefly homeschooled, and fundie books were her only options where she lived (pre-internet). This plays well with that trumper bsae.
They also love to point out the founding fathers were Christian (Which, not exactly. Most would not be considered Christian by the fundie crowd) and then ignore those same people owned slaves and did not set them free even though they had that option.
Contradictions and hypocrisy are their bread and butter. Ignoring facts is the sweet sweet jam.

He'd be sooo much less dangerous if he was stupid. He's very smart, very shrewd, vary calculating, and extremely EVIL. It's not that it didn't occur to him that enslaved people were not happy with their situation- he doesn't see them as people. That's why it's so easier for him to mistreat asylum seekers. He doesn't see them as human beings. And he's fully aware that the base that he is playing to is just as evil and as cruel.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
