Annual end of fed fiscal year thread

So, I was just searching around to see if the CR has passed yet (Senate yes, house no. 30 hours to go 🙄 www.govexec.com/management/2022/09/senate-reaches-deal-avoid-shutdown-punt-threat-10-weeks/377735/)

and then, I got to thinking how fucking bad it would be if they didn’t pass the CR in the middle of a hurricane.

Which suggests FDA drug approval office could have layoffs if congress doesn’t reauthorize user fees. But the article is from early September. Does anyone know if that has happened or heard anything about that? Because, that will affect so much. 

also, dude, I finished everything I needed to have done by the end of the FY (except maybe my self evaluation) by mid-September. Why the hell does congress procrastinate so much?!

edit: talked with a friend who is with one of the listed affected groups at FDA. His response made me think that it hasn’t been reauthorized yet. 🤬

You know, I feel like there hasn’t been any talk about this budget/continuing resolution. And it’s only for 10weeks so essentially through 12/16.

So annoying!!

Well, this feels more like business as usual. For 2001-2014(ish), no one ever talked about it. It was always just Sept 29, don’t worry. Oct 1, normal. I feel like there has only been 1 or 2 of my 21 years where I’ve started the FY *not* under CR. But, I suspect the reason there is no real talk about it is because “congress says it’s going to happen and they have the votes.” Well friggin do it!

Related… because if the always CR thing, our spendings cycle is Oct-Jan/Feb: severely restricted because of CR. March: we have a budget, now put through the contacts you have been holding. April: prep up your proposals to spend the extra money we have (bc, we didn’t spent what we planned earlier). May: all SOWs due. August: STOP SPENDING, FY is almost over. 🙄

This was a big discussion yesterday because I have 14 interns that are all a bit freaked about no work and no pay. I told them it's 99% likely we'll get a CR because of mid-term elections.

I'm mission essential anyway.

Update: the user fee legislation has been reauthorized.

womet, thank you so much! I was looking around and asking around my FDA adjecent people. One didn’t reply. The other gave me a weird response that told me little (this is my friend who also texts me on holidays because “I’m not getting replied from people, did I miss something?” So I don’t trust his answers on furlough 😂).

Also, looks like the house approved the CR through mid-December. Because, you know, no one can make a decision before midterms. So, looks like the usual just-in-time funding.
