I live in a blue city/state so I’m trying to help dem candidates in other places. I truly believe the R platform is in such stark contrast to what so many Americans believe is best for this country, all we have to do is connect an honest, authentic Democratic message to voters to get them to vote, especially the youngest generations. This election is so important to win the Senate and get better state representatives. Midterms are about voter turnout.
I have a stack of Vote Forward letters to fill out and mail on October 29th. Last election we had letter writing parties with neighbors on my friends patio so I’ll probably see if they want to join forces again. There’s still time for you to do this!
I don’t have a ton of spare money in my budget for donations but I will donate some more because I feel like I need to do something and if we all donated a few bucks more for some candidates it really will make a difference for them in the homestretch. I appreciate the candidates who are more focused on getting good policy messaging out to the world than requesting donations.
I know it seems silly but I figure if I’m wasting my time on social media, I may as well be using it to support candidates (algorithms, y’all). I even joined TikTok and it scared me a little at first because I wasn’t finding much content from candidates while searching names and hashtags, even those who were on other social media, and it’s a great way to get messaging out to GenZ. In the past few weeks I’m seeing a lot more. I lived in TX and I’m definitely supporting Beto, Mike Collier and Rochelle Garza against the axis of evil that is their current leadership (and I lived there while they were in their current roles). Beto’s campaign is on fire. He’s visiting a lot of places Abbott never visits, and changing a lot of minds of former Republicans who have voted for Abbott in the past. Sound bites from the debate were immediately on social media. Ted Cruz isn’t up for re-election but LOL that there is a hashtag and sticker on TikTok that says #allmyhomieshatetedcruz.
I live in a purple county and am the precinct leader for my neighborhood which means I have about 215 households I need to canvass. I have only gotten 20 done sooooo lots to do. My husband will likely help too. The weather is finally cool so that helps but I'm having foot problems which does not help. I have all the packets of info pulled together at least and if folks aren't home I leave the bag of stuff on their doorknob. If there is a Ring doorbell or the like I give a little stump speech, lol. It's all democrats so hopefully nobody will be an asshole.
I may do some texting/phone banking closer to time as well. But need to focus on my precinct first.
oh and in Kansas the top priorities are re-electing Laura Kelly, our dem governor and re-electing Sharice Davids, our one dem house rep for the state. They gerrymandered her district to hell so it's not as easy as it was 2 years ago.
would love to get more house reps to break the supermajority but that's really difficult to do. Also hopefully will get a democrat elected for chair of county commission. The person running against him is a whackadoo.
Kansas turned out big in August but not sure they will in November which they really need to if they want to keep abortion legal because the Rs running have sworn they will find a way to outlaw it despite statewide pressure to keep it legal.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
I just finished my big box of Vote Forward letters I worked on over the summer and fall. Sending to Ohio, Michigan and Texas. The “big send” is October 29th, so if you have time anyone and some stamps and envelopes, there is still time!!

I'm interested in this but see there's an orientation, and the times the orientation is offered aren't good for me. If I read through the website will that be good enough? Or do you think I really need to do the orientation? The biggest takeaway I see is to use nonpartisan language when crafting a personal narrative about why I vote. And then I see there are some technical instructions to make sure I follow. Is there any info missing that's only available via the orientation?

Nope, I didn’t do the “official” orientation. When you print out the list of names it’s pretty explanatory. Blue pens, stamps, envelopes, use your first name, last initial on envelope + vote forward in the return address. Make sure the addressee at the bottom of the letter is the person you are mailing to and envelopes match letter. Craft a message personal to you but nonpartisan. Easy, but according to what I read, very effective.

I never attended an orientation. There are instructions that are pretty self explanatory. When we did it for 2020, Vote Forward posted some good examples or people tagged theirs on social media (Instagram in particular). Each goes to a different person at a different address so you can just write the same phrase in all of them.
I've been working with a local reproductive healthcare group to design voter guides for them to distribute. I've also been getting lots of texts about canvassing for different candidates, so I might do that one of these last weekends before the election.
