I want them to match. Hubs wants whatever is cheapest regardless of whether it matches. Different brands of everything. He's even open to (gasp) different finishes. Am I nuts? Is matching an important aesthetic?
I'm fine w/different brands but finishes should probably match (maybe an exception for things like fancy stoves in cool and colors and whatnot - also I'm probably team cabinet panel on the dishwasher...sorry ya'll, haven't bought one yet).

I personally would rather get the unit I’m happy with for each thing in matching finishes than a set from the same manufacturer. Different manufacturers do different things better or worse.

Matching brands means you probably won't get the best option for the appliance (and that's more important to me). I will go for matching finishes though.
You may get a better deal if you match brands...sometimes they have a package discount or something.
I would generally prefer to match to keep it simple, but would definitely choose a different brand of something (in the same finish!) if I thought that appliance was way better or had features I really wanted.
Matching finishes, and I prefer the handles are similar shape/style so they look cohesive.
Yeah, I like the handles to be similar, too.
We currently have non-matching appliances since we had to replace our dishwasher (now stainless steel) unexpectedly. We are limping our white ovens along since replacing them is part of a larger overall project. Thankfully the cabinets are white so they blend in.

We did a full kitchen renovation last year and chose all GE Profile appliances. It was important to me that they looked similar (same handles and logos). We bought everything except for a dishwasher because we had a 4 year old GE dishwasher. It recently died and we ended up with a Bosch for more reliability. However, the handle looks nearly identical and it has no logos on it, so I was okay with that.

H and I had to replace all our appliances at the same time in our old TH. Everything died one after another except the microwave so we got LG everything for a great deal. It helped that it coincided with their memorial day sales too. We lived without working washer & dryer for a week and without a dishwasher for 3ish weeks. The fridge came quickly, thankfully. It was easiest to live without an oven actually. The stove still worked so we could still cook some things. It was fun times in homeownership /s
Currently we have a whirlpool microwave & dishwasher and LG washer/dryer, fridge & oven. The finishes match on all the kitchen appliances. The washer & dryer don't need to match the kitchen appliances so they don't. :-p
Totally agree that finishes should be the same, but brand matching doesn't matter at all to me. I guess if you're getting everything at once you could aim for that, but I'd personally rather focus on function and price, and I wouldn't want to feel like someday I need to replace everything just because my fridge stopped working.
I personally prefer that the finishes all match, but I don't care if the brands match. I'd rather pick individual appliances, regardless of manufacturer, that meet my needs and budget.
I'm laughing ... Before this, I never thought about it. Now when I redo my kitchen, the anal-retentive side of my brain will probably try to force the pragmatic side to get all the same brand. "ALL MUST MATCH!!!"
But pragmatically, I would say just the finish needs to match.
