I haven't been to Universal since 2016, do they still use paper tickets? Do they have to be scanned for the Express Pass?
I had a lanyard back in 2016 for the Harry Potter event, my H has a bunch of them from work and wondering if we should pack them for our group if we will have to scan tickets frequently.

In February 2022 I just had an e-ticket with a QR code, though you can print them out and the scan the printed ticket. Scanning the phone didn't work perfectly though, so I think they recommend bringing a printed copy as well.
I downloaded the app and had the tickets on my phone. It probably wouldn't be a bad idea to print a copy, but once we were in the gate we didn't need them again (this may not be the case for fast passes...)
For the express pass they need to look at it for every ride so we bought the landyards. It's a pain to keep taking out your phone.
Ok, thats what I was thinking, thank you! For the event I went to they printed us like 12 different tickets so the lanyards were key and I havent been able to get the app to work so I felt like maybe things hadn't changed that much.
When we went last Dec, we took our paper tickets (or email confirmation) and then had those converted to the plastic cards. We stayed on property, so we could use the cards to purchase stuff in the park and have it charged to our room.
We got Express passes for one day of our visit, and that was a separate card. The lanyards were definitely helpful.
Are you staying on site? Do you have express pass?
I honestly don't remember if our tickets were plastic or paper, but we had the EP/Hotel key on the front and then the tickets on the back in the ID holder on our lanyards. If you have EP they scan that every ride you use it, so we had it out a lot.
