My mom is in charge of the angel tree at her church and got the list of names for Christmas already. I have a 4 yr old and 7 yr old. Both are boys. I'm not sure if the 7 yr old is in first or second grade. I get no info other than their name, sex & age fwiw.
I had a 4 year old 2.5 years ago however his interests were very narrow. He liked construction vehicles & construction legos. What do other 4 year olds like? So far I've gotten a lego set aimed at 4+.
My 6 yr old still has narrow interests. He likes the lego movie & lego movie 2. So what do 6 or 7 year olds like? So far I've gotten a lego set aimed at 6+.

For the 4 year old, vehicles of all kinds. Construction vehicles, trucks, monster trucks, hot wheels, you really can’t go wrong. Unique trucks like garbage/recycling, cement, mail cars, etc seem a hit. Also anything dinosaurs. Legos/building sets are also great.
My 4yo loves monster trucks and hot wheels. 7yo is into Pokemon cards, baseball, and the rest is kind of video game interests.
Both boys like playing the Akedo fighter toys (kind of like mini rock'em sock'em robots) and they play those well together. They both play Legos together too. They went through a beyblades phase.
I have 4.5 and 8 year old boys. They play together, mostly with all the same toys. They like:
Construction and garbage trucks, all kinds of legos (but especially vehicles), magnatiles, art supplies, kinetic sand, nat geo science sets, monster trucks, hot wheels and tracks, goo jit zu, anything Star Wars, super hero action figures, remote control anything, board games, extreme dot to dot books, air dry clay.
My 4YO is super into dinosaurs in addition to everything else mentioned here. We are getting him some of the Jurassic World dinosaur figures and Jurassic World legos for the 4+ age.
I have three 6.5 yr old boys. 2 like pokemon and Minecraft and the other hates it. They all like Bad Kitty, Super Rabbit boy, search and find books. For toys probably remote control car, the ufo hand control drone things, stuffed animals, magnet tiles, and fidget things. When they were younger the easier to manipulate transformers were favorites.
My seven year old boy loves art supplies (good pens and thick paper), Pokémon cards, board games, legos. He’s outgrown all vehicles but at four both my boys loved them.
