It hasn't been on my radar to want to buy one at all. H and I were watching this guy who buys used/totaled Telsas to rebuild for himself and seeing all the BS he dealt with from the company made me not want one at all.

I want to add that while Musk's asshatery in the political sphere should be enough on it's own, it is their disregard for public safety with self driving technology that put me over the edge first.
The self driving isn't really anything more than what other automakers have (and those automakers are a touch more concerned about reputation)
The first time I saw this feature was recently in my brother's car which happens to be a second-hand Tesla. I would really like my next car to have this and I haven't done much research into it so I'm glad others have it too.
I can get behind not buying a Tesla. However they are so so revered in some of the circles I'm in so like I said before, there are more than enough people willing to buy one no matter what stunt this guy does next. It's the new status car for these people and they could care less about what some billionaire is out there doing with his money and power.
Nope. H's electric truck should be delivered early next year (obviously not a Tesla). My next car will be an EV if we can't do single car household, but it will 100% not be a Tesla.
Which truck?
Rivian R1T. Although, funnily enough, he got the email from Ford that he was selected to build his Lightning. He just prefers the Rivian at this point.

We have a 2 year old Model 3.
it's ok.
H loves it, because he's a tech junkie and loves the "empty" look of the inside. He's tall, and it fits him well.
I don't love it, and would never buy one as *my* car because 1) Elon is a complete toad
2) It feels built for a man. No matter how I adjust the seat/seatbelt, I can't ever get the seatbelt to hit in the right place. It sits too high on me, and cuts into my neck, both as a driver and passenger. I'm 5'4", so short-ish, but not exactly out of the average height range for an adult woman.
3) I hate that there are no control buttons. Everything is buried in a menu on the screen. Sure, the wipers *should* turn on automatically, but sometimes they don't, or I want to turn them on for a quick burst when I drive through a truck kicking off mist, or whatever. I still can't fucking figure out where that button is, and just use the wiper cleaner button on the turn signal. Ditto for climate controls. Give me a button to push or knob to turn to adjust the temp, don't make me look at a damn screen, that I have to swipe/touch in just the right spot to adjust things when I'm driving.
4) For the car, its fine (maybe the window is bigger?), but I test-drove the Model Y when I was looking for a new car, and HATED it. The back seemed cramped, and the back window is like this tiny slit. Couldn't see shit. You're not supposed to rely on cameras, so give me a window I can fucking SEE OUT OF.
5) The automatic driving (we don't have full automatic, just the auto lane keep) disengages every time you switch lanes. So if you're on the highway cruising at 70, and want to switch lanes to pass- you signal to change lanes, but then the auto lane keep turns off. So you have to turn it back on when you're back in your lane. SO annoying.
6) Phantom breaking. Apparently this is a known issue, but scary as fuck when it happens. Every once in a while, it senses an object on the road and just SLAMS on the breaks. But there is no object. Happened to us on the highway, going 70ish. It's a miracle we didn't get in an accident, thank GOD H was able to slam the accelerator immediately (but if you're spaced out/in cruise, you wouldn't necessarily be expecting to need to quickly accelerate). Happened again on a country road by our house, going 45. Nothing was there either time.

We considered them a few months ago and were able to test drive a model 3 and a model Y, but we also tried other brands. We ended up putting in an order for the Ford Mustang Mach-E and should get it in the next few months. I had already heard stories from Tesla's business practices but now with all of Elon's antics I definitely would not consider them.

H put a deposit on the Rivian R1S. His friend has one and he loves it.

Glad to hear it! We hadn't seen any Rivians in our area until late this summer. Now we are seeing them somewhat regularly (like once a week, lol). He was able to walk around an R1T that was in a parking lot and see it up close for the first time last month and he is pumped to get it. We saw our first R1S last week; it's nice looking!
My coworker has one (Model S? Not a 3). I admit, I was pretty impressed when I rode in it. I loved the feel of it and the windows were expansive and awesome (I did not ride in the back). However, he got in an accident a couple years ago (2019?) and it was a huge pain to get it fixed - only a select few mechanics in Denver would even touch it, and it took forever to get the parts. He was not at fault (and had the video from the car to prove it) so didn't pay, but I imagine it was expensive to repair.
I wouldn't have bought one then because I'm too cheap, and I definitely wouldn't now. There are quite a few around here and my gut reaction when I see one is to roll my eyes. And I drove a Prius way back in the early aughts when they were newish and South Park joked that they emitted "smug."
No, but I never would have. I have friends who worked there in the early days and their experiences regarding the trade off between progress and safety was enough for me to never consider Tesla.

I don't think I was ever really serious about buying one, but more in a wistful, "wow, that would be neat" sort of way.
ETA: I'm north of Seattle and they.are.everywhere.
Sometime last year I learned about the S3XY naming convention (I seriously had never put it together before) and then I was firmly in the "fuck this guy" camp.

OMG I did NOT know about the naming convention and I cannot roll my eyes harder. What a freaking man child!
I’ve always thought the Tesla symbol looks like a uterus. Is that a joke too?
Someone else mentioned it but every time I see a Tesla I kind of roll my eyes too. The people I know who own them seem to have a similar personality.
This is purely anecdotal, but I think people are cancelling orders. My neighbors have been waiting 6 months for their model Y and the date just got moved up a month in the last few days.
I had a model 3. I really did love it so much. I sold it in January due to the winter commute. When I get another EV it will not be a Tesla, but I'm not sure which one it will be.
No, there are many other electric cars I'd consider before a Tesla. But they've become super popular here, which is crazy to me. Maine used to be so basic.
Saw these videos of the self-driving car that's in development. I would pass out from anxiety if I was this reporter.

I recently rode in one of the first models. I'm a terrible judge of quality finish since my current ride is a '93 proton, so I thought that tesla was pretty fancypants. But, no, I never entertained it back then, and I certainly wouldn't now.

Oh, ewww, I had no idea about the naming convention. Adding to general ick is that ford apparently threatened to sue if he used e because it would be copying them. I'm so fucking sick of men. #yesallmen

We love our Tesla and finally got an install date for solar panels and power walls after waiting over a year. Elon Musk has always been weird but he seems full psycho now. I hope he separates from Tesla.
Tesla and Elon have sucked forever. This isn’t new since he bought Twitter. We did a case study in my MBA program in 2017 or 2018 about how shitty Telsa’s operations were.
So, yeah, no. I wouldn’t buy one. Both because fuck that guy and because I like to be safe while I operate heavy machinery on a highway.
