I have only read about one death sentence in the mainstream media that I seek out. I checked Al Jazeera and BBC after reading your post and see the same:
What I've been seeing (via social media) is 15,000 and the rape bit was added later. I've been looking for reputable sources since it started circulating last week and haven't found anything.

I know this is anecdotal, but a friend of mine since high school is saying this is all true, including the planned assaults on the women, which she says has happened before. Her parents sacrificed everything to move their two daughters from Iran in the late 1980s when they were small children, but most of her aunts/uncles/cousins are still there. She's afraid to post anything linked to her name because of possible retribution from the Iranian government, but these are the links that she's been asking us to share - Persians With Purpose and Hillel Neuer
It's obviously not "hard proof" that this is really happening, but I have no reason to believe otherwise based on what she's saying. She's been back to Iran many times in the last decade and still has a large extended family there.
theoriginalbean, I am so sorry for your friends. My parents moved here in 1979 with my oldest sister. People ask us all the time if we have ever been to visit, or if my parents have gone back. Our answer is always a resounding 'No. Do you watch the news? This is not a place to vacation." Thankfully the last of our family that lived there moved to the US in 2007. No one flies an American flag higher and prouder than my dad.

I initially read this as "Iran excursions" and thought are you fucking insane?
I have Persian family (their choice to use Persian vs Iranian). Most left by 1979 but not all. I happened to wear kelly green in 2009 to a family wedding, and I was the star. It was unintentional, not a statement, but I didn't mind the love I was given
A few family has gone back since, and they mind their p's and q's, and I get why they go. But I also get not wanting to give on red cent to that country's tourism machine. They do continue traditions and yummy food in their new homes, and I'm the happy eater as a result.

Although my family is from Iran, we are actually Assyrian, so Christians - which makes things a little more complicated. But I agree, I love that we carry on our traditions through the food!

Oh, the food! I actually don't know their religion as they don't practice anything. They just practice the food and the wedding traditions. Tossing sugar on the happy couple doesn't exactly work when it's raining
And, yeah, even the vegetarian uncle was pushing meat on me because mom, auntie, grannie made it, and I'm about 90% veg myself, not that it mattered.
