I honestly think they will cover it up and say the missile didn’t land in Poland. There is no other way. Defending a NATO country means a full blown war with Russia. And no one wants that at all bc Russia is scary.

I don’t think this will lead to NATO attacking Russia. Nobody wants a nuclear war. I can see Europe deciding it was an accident and use this as an excuse to send more military equipment and the jets that Ukraine have been asking for since the start of the war.
I don’t know. It is almost midnight here and I probably won’t get a good night sleep though!!

That’s kind of what retired Gen Barry McCaffrey has been saying on MSNBC.

On the one hand, I really want this to happen. Because, like everyone else, I don’t want a nuclear war. But, if it was intentional… fuck. Just fuck.

I think the first response will be just more equipment/money/and armies stationed on the border. If Russia was smart they would accept it and not make a big fuss about it.
Very stupid on their part because Ukraine was feeling pressure to discuss peace talks. They saw that they weren’t going to get that much funding next year, so close to a US election year. Russia just bought Ukraine more money and support.

Not sure if this is comforting, or a stall tactic to keep people from panicking:
"US President Joe Biden said that preliminary information suggests it is unlikely the missile that caused an explosion in Poland on Tuesday and killed two civilians was fired from within Russia....He added that "it’s unlikely in the minds of the trajectory that it was fired from Russia. But we’ll see.""

There were a number of incidents in somewhat recent history that should have triggered all-out war, but were somewhat minimized. I'm thinking, specifically of the shooting down of KAL007.
I was starting to see this narrative late last night, and almost posted something. But I didn’t have a good source. This being the narrative that is best for not escalating.
When things hit the fan with Ukraine, a friend who emigrated from Russia (as a refugee) "joked" "Poland needs to watch its back." I hate that he might have been right.
("joked" in quotes because he has a very wry, dark sense of humor in a speaking-truth-to-power sort of way)

My Polish friend, who immigrated as a community’s refugee in the 80s, has been talking about Putin and his fears for Poland for years. 😔
