I finished The School for Good Mothers by Jessamine Chan ,1*. I am currently reading The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafón.
QOTW: I have been altering our Thanksgiving dinner over the last few years in an attempt to find what works best for our family. I realized that I was making things because it was tradition more than what everyone actually liked eating. The only thing that has remained constant through the years is green bean casserole (although I am changing the recipe this year so that I can eat it too).
I’m reading Wayward by Chuck Wendig, sequel to Wanderers, which I’m enjoying. It’s really long, which is only a problem because so many of my library holds came in at once.
QOTW: Nothing that I’m necessary in charge of always making, but it’s not thanksgiving without sweet potato casserole (ours is more like a less sweet apple crisp, no marshmallows) and pecan pie (the kind without corn syrup). I love green bean casserole but no one else here does, so no point making it just for me.

Finished Take My Hand. It was incredibly interesting, although very hard to read at times (especially since it took place right after Roe v Wade and written before this past summer..). I kinda felt though like the ending/current timeline was odd and didn't completely make sense. It seemed like pieces were missing to tie it all up.
Just started Love on the Brain, so far I like it. I've read reviews saying it's very similar to The Love Hypothesis, and I do see why (other than both being part of her STEM romance series of books). The main male characters seem like almost the same person and that bothers me a bit.
QOTW: We don't usually cook much! We switch off families each year. MIL usually does all or most of the cooking (it's usually just us 4, ILs and BIL), and my cousin does a huge feast. My mom brings dessert. We do an annual friends Thanksgiving and we usually bring pickle dip (like a pickle roll up, but in dip form) or a dessert (last year we brought a smores bar dessert and omg it was so good).
tacokick, stuffing balls? Tell me more! I’ve never heard of this but it sounds delicious.
Yes! We make sort of a regular bread stuffing (onions, celery, herbs, bread, stock) but form it into balls and place the balls around the the turkey the last 30 minutes or so. They are the best of both worlds—a little crispy on the top like dressing made in a pan but they get a lot of the turkey juices too like you’d get if you stuffed the turkey and risked food poisoning.

Finished A Thousand Steps into the Night which was great. I loved it.
Started listening to Soul of the Deep, which is the sequel to Skin of the Sea. The first was a retelling of The Little Mermaid combined with 15th century African history and African mythology. I purposely chose the audio version because Yetide Badaki reads it so beautifully.
QOTW: Do you have a specific dish that you always make for Thanksgiving? I used to make ice cream, but it became too hard to transport when our schedules changed (pre-kids I'd go up and stay the night before). So now it's whatever's needed. This year I'm in charge of green veggie and bread.
I read Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus after seeing so many recs for it on the ML thread. I thought it was great.
I do not have a famous Thanksgiving dish. We do something different every year and most of the time it’s not us solely cooking. We’re hosting this year though so perhaps something will become a new hit.

I finally made good progress on Project Hail Mary. I need to read at least 35 pages every single day until end of Nov to finish before the renewal is due back.
QOTW: I mostly go to a restaurant (I tip really well!) with my dad.
