My MIL apparently got a cortisone shot to the wrist today so they won’t be down tomorrow as anticipated but are planning for Thursday. I got alerts from my older daughter’s school today about both a schoolwide flu outbreak and also a Covid exposure in a particular class. My husband and I basically have a bingo card for our attendees bailing. Will it be my niece with a fever on Wednesday? SIL with a migraine Thursday morning? One of my own kids with something tonight? I’d place the odds of us hosting all 15 people at dinner Thursday right now at like 30%.
Of course I’m making light of my potential circumstances, but I am sorry for everyone disappointed right now. It stinks.
DS is worse today (102 fever, headache, sore throat) and there are no doctor appts until after Thanksgiving. Is that how flu is presenting to others?
My son’s first complaints were body aches, fever (topped out at 102 and we could manage it ok with meds), and bad headache. His congestion didn’t come for a couple more days. We were back at the pediatrician today because he now has an ear infection on top of the flu.

Oh poor buddy, that's brutal. Headache definitely seems to be the major complaint here.
I originally said no but after 2 indoor events this past weekend with very little masking (although on the positive side I didn't notice much coughing and sneezing at them!) I woke up before my alarm today due to my congestion and sore throat. And I'm coughing now too. So idk if Thanksgiving will happen after all. On the other hand we were doing a lot of work in the basement last night and DH sanded a bunch of wood without shutting the door down there so it was crazy dusty so maybe I can blame that? I guess we will see what tomorrow brings.
Viv is finally fever free and feeling much better. I was feeling so thankful and excited for dinner again, then like clock work my SIL texts that she’s down with something that sounds just like what Viv had- but we weren’t anywhere near each other. It’s just all over.
My oldest has a 102 fever and is congested and coughing. Maybe the flu? Who knows. I took my younger kid yesterday to the dr for barky cough and retractions so he got a steroid. We didn’t have Thanksgiving plans so that’s fine but it’s a bummer they are sick. Hope H and I don’t get it.

Actually had to change my answer! I woke up feeling super crappy; tickle in my throat and general exhaustion. I don't think my mom will want to come over tomorrow. I'm still making all this food though.
I’m so sad. My 4YO has his 27th (or thereabouts) cold of the year, and it normally wouldn’t be enough to keep us home, but there will be a newborn at Thanksgiving so we can’t risk it. Fortunately we are still going to see my parents and younger brother. Older brother with baby will come first to eat, and we’ll go after.
For all those (like me) not feeling well or has a loved one not feeling well or are not having the day they wish they were having, I wish you peace, health, and joy for today and the weekend. As the poll shows, you are not alone, and we are all here to help each other get through the rough times.
Happy Thursday (or Friday for our western Pacific folks)!
I have been lucky so far. Everyone who gathered together in my family for Thanksgiving tested that morning and all were negative. My parents flew out Thanksgiving night for a Med cruise (that has been postponed multiple times due to Covid). I am a bit concerned about them getting sick from this, but what can you do. AFAIK, we are all fully up to date on vaccines and boosters, including flu.

I tested positive for Covid on Tuesday so I have been quarantined in my room. Thankfully the rest of my family was negative so they still got to have their holiday celebration.
Kiddo was kinda poorly but managed with over the counter meds. I caught what he has and managed over the vacation week. We're both at urgent care now, though.
We had to cancel today’s reschedule of last Sundays thanksgiving because my sister has 4 kids and it’s slowly going through them all. Trying again next Sunday, but for the youngest’s birthday and he wants pizza. Really I prefer that to our family’s thanksgiving food anyway.
We had cancelled our thanksgiving plans in VT on Weds but the in-laws begged us to come anyway (reminder: DS was diagnosed with Herpangina - throat ulcers contagious if you come in contact with saliva). He woke up Thursday feeling 100% better so we went. It was a small gathering and all adults texted us to please come so I felt like I did my due diligence and relented. DS wore a mask while not eating.
So after having my three kids mask at school for the past three weeks, we saw my parents, 2 of my siblings and 2 neices/nephews on Thursday. Yesterday we did with H's immediate family. Came home today. Now one of mine and one niece from yesterday both have fevers. My 3 year old with the fever is also complaining his eyeball hurts.

We were unscathed at Thanksgiving. None of the 20 people present were visibly sick and these are people who would inform us if in subsequent days anyone got sick, but so far so good. Still early though.
