I’ve been reading reviews on tablets and am in a bit of analysis paralysis. 😊 Any btdt advice for what to really consider in tablet purchases for a 4 year old?
Is the 10 inch screen really better than the 7 or 8 inch? Are the ones that come in a heavy duty case better than buying a separate case?
Any recommendations or regrets on these purchases? Thanks!!
I am not an expert, but for a four-year-old, I would get an Amazon tablet of some kind that comes in that rubbery case thingy.
I know people can have issues with them, but we have two that we have had for years already, and they have worked absolutely fine for us during the preschool/little kids stage.

Agree. The kindle fire was annoying but I would still get it again for that age.

I also recommend the kindle kids fire. The newer ones are lightyears faster and work better than the one I bought 4 years ago. The kids subscription has lots of games and easy for kids to use.
My favorite part...no you tube, even though there are some ryans world videos and DS thinks he's tricking me when he watches them.

The Amazon fire kids tablets are good for 4 year olds who want to play games. There AREN'T ANY ADS!! For that reason I recommend the fire. You can also allow Netflix and other video apps.
We have Samsung tablets that are great but watching YouTube kids, Netflix and Disney but games suck. Anything downloaded from the play store have so many ads!!
We have fire tablets for our younger kids and iPads for our older kids- but honestly I would just buy the iPad. Especially if you are an apple user for other things. The fire tablets are so not user-friendly. Things like just downloading an airline app to get wifi on a plane are super annoying on the fire tablet. If you do get the fire, yes I think the bigger screen is worth it. We have both the larger and smaller screen.
Honestly, I would only buy an iPad. We had kindle fires and another tablet (a Samsung maybe?) and both were crap. No tablet we have used has been as user friendly as the iPad.

Also agree. My 6 year old is still using his Kindle fire for Roblox and watching movies and such. I hate it, but he works it just fine. The warranty is good too, we did have to replace it twice when he was younger for dropping it and shattering the screen. I'd love an iPad but can't stomach the price lol.
I would just get a kindle fire and jailbreak it. You can do that w/o having to hook it to a computer nowadays. It will then give you the google play store to download more apps.
We have a new 10 inch Fire tablet and an old Samsung Galaxy Tab A. I MUCH prefer the galaxy tab even though it’s many years old. I put the google play store on the Fire tablet and not all apps work, and I just find a lot of stuff about it annoying. I prefer the parental controls on the galaxy tab because you can lock down everything with the Family Link app from your own phone.
We hated the Fire when we had it. It was slow and glitchy, and C had trouble using it by himself, which was annoying AF. If you have the ability to hand down an older iPad, I’d recommend doing that.

This exactly. Dd is 3 and is using an 8 year old iPad. It still works to play her games and watch tv. I even still use it occasionally.

My 4yo has a Samsung a7 (I think?) From Costco, it's great for traveling . We loaded shows on to it and downloaded games for flights this year, we have no complaints.
I got my 4yr old an Amazon Fire tablet. It's just the regular version because I needed it ASAP and that's what was in stock at the store. She's dropped it a few times and I had to pop the screen back in? But it hasn't affected it. I personally hate it, it is so incredibly slow, but it's fine for my kid. I only have PBS games, Khan academy, and PBS video on it for her and they all work fine/normal speed. But switching users or when I try and use it I have no patience. One thing I do like is you can download YouTube videos to their profile, and they don't have any ads or access to more videos. So that part is nice!
Thanks all! We went with the fire and since it’s use will be 99% pbs kids related, hope it it should be fine.
The iPad idea got me thinking and then I remembered ours is about 12 years old and stopped working when it failed to update years ago. 🤣 Didn’t realize how much the prices on iPads went up since we last purchased one!
We're pretty happy with the Kindle Fire Kids. There are fewer apps, but also fewer ads. V has somehow figured out how to watch YouTube but I'm trying to be breezy about it. They're due for upgrades (I think it's been 3 years), and we'll get the larger screen this time.
Our kids are 5 and 9. For younger ages I would definitely get the Kindle for sturdiness.
We've been pretty happy with the Kindle Fire Kids for 2.0 (she's 3.5), I think it's the 7-8 inch screen? It's a hand me down from a friend's kid that outgrew it so due to age and the amount of crap 2.0 spills/smears on the thing it can be a little glitchy but nothing that a restart and quick wipe down hasn't solved. We loaded a bunch of Blippi and Bubble Guppies on it for drives to/from the beach (roughly 11 hours each way) and that thing was a godsend.
