I don't think I knew HBC was so horrible. Yes, Helena, we do judge a "genius" by his sexual practices when those practices are criminal. She has worked with Weinstein, Polanski, and Woody Allen. Her standing up for JK Rowling is something.
I didn’t know either until I started seeing these articles the last couple. I think since she has never been a huge celebrity she has been able to fly under the radar - or maybe this is the first time she has spoken out about stuff like this.
interesting that she has no problems with her two friends and their histories, but Kevin Spacey who has allegations of abuse of men she has issues with. Helen, your homophobia is showing.
And what the fuck is she talking about JK Rowling's history and trauma?!

Between Spacey and the JK Rowling stuff seems like broad queerphobia to me.

There's a FB post going around about her getting kicked out at 17, having an abusive H etc. Not sure how much of it is true. No sources were attached.
right, and how is that related to her having issues with the trans community? like, having an abusive history is not a reason to hate trans folx. (I know you know that. just rambling at how annoying HBC's comments are)

Gross.
yes, exactly. At first I was thinking she was doing mental gymnastics to support her friends. But then she made the comments about Spacey and I was like nope.

Whenever it scrolls across my feed I roll my eyes and block whoever posted it. So there's that.
It seems like HBC sympathizes with JKR because she supports JKR's "right" to draw a false equivalency between transwomen's rights and diminishment of ciswomen's rights.
I can't remember which article i read, but HBC was saying that JKR has had the trauma in the past of not having equal rights as a woman, and being harassed and abused as a woman. It seems like JKR feels like she finally came into her empowerment as a woman and is threatened by inclusionary language that lets biologically male persons gain empowerment in what she wants to be her own exclusionary space for women. HBC seems to sympathize with that.
But ultimately, that is just the psychological explanation for the fact that JKR is openly transphobic. Periodt.
HBC cares about JKR and Johnny Depp and wants to justify her support for them as people. It'd be a lot better for her if she'd just say, "They're imperfect people. I don't agree with them on everything. I understand where they come from in their beliefs and some behaviors, and I love them through that. It doesn't mean i agree with them."
Instead she wants to say that we need to give them space to be abusive (Depp) and exclusionary/transphobic (JKR).
As a huge HP fan I'm so pissed at JKR for ruining it for me. She can have her prejudices but taking a public platform to express them and to encourage others to follow them, especially through mocking, is really just inexcusable.
