Speaking of mad, we were nearly late to DD2’s guitar recital because DD1’s show chorus — which took over last weekend and has required 5+ hours of after school practice for the last several weeks — had a “recording session” go well over 30 minutes late and I couldn’t get ahold of anyone to dismiss DD1. I was pissed. I told DD1 she could only participate come the end of break if her teacher acknowledged that there may be times that I expect her to actually leave on time and not 10-30 minutes after something is supposed to have ended. DD1 is getting a cell phone for her birthday, she will carry it, and I do expect her to be dismissed in a timely manner. I respect what the teachers do but I am done pacing around parking lots.
DD1 - crushing that HS swim team life. New best time in her 200 last night and her team took a 123 sweep in the 500.
DD2 - is living her best choir/robotics/orchestra/rec gymnastics/trivia club/theater life. She basically has a different activity every day after school and in April (when choir, robotics, and trivia club are over) she will begin diving again.
DD3 - had herself a little inter squad meet for the little kids. She did great, 3/3 for best times and 1st place in her heat.
DD1 and DD3 swim in a club meet this weekend - should be a fun, FAST meet!
We found a new date/time for the softball party and now it looks like the whole team can make it, which is great. I also collected contributions for coach gifts and everyone was really generous - the total contributed was $700. I need to get one big gift for the main coach, 2 gifts for the main assistant coaches, and then 4 gifts for people who helped out sometimes. So 7 gifts total. I'm trying to figure out how to break down the total and what to get.....Maybe $250 for main coach ($200 gift card and some novelty gift), $125 for 2 main assistant coaches ($100 gift card and some novelty gift), and then $50 each for the other four? I'd love any good ideas I think I'll email the main coach's wife to see if she has any ideas.
sdlaura, the mom that did ours for gymnastics sent an email out to all the coaches asking favorite beverage, hobby outside of the sport, favorite place to eat out and favorite snack food. She then did gift baskets around the answers. It was a mix of gift cards and favorites, and the coaches were speechless. She also asked the girls to write a thank you to their favorite coach to add to the baskets.
Head coach got 2 bottles of wine, gift card to her favorite restaurant with enough on it to take her spouse, a luxe blanket because she is always cold, and a gift card to Amazon. DD's favorite coach loves to cook/BBQ so he got fancy grill tools, sauces, cookies, and gift cards. I think she had $600 to cover the 4 coaches so they were very spoiled.
186momx I love that idea! I texted with the head coach and he already decided what he wants to get 3 of the assistant coaches and they are $100 custom bats. So now I need to rework the plans around that I am definitely keeping your idea in mind for future coach gifts.
It's my sons first basketball game tonight! Probably going to be crushed (rumor is all members on opposing team can dunk) but I can't wait to go watch him play.

Not sports, but DS is not going to be in the next play the playhouse is doing where he normally does his plays because the performance conflicts with his school play. Although a lot of kids are returning there are a few key kids who are also are not doing this one, which makes me feel a bit better. I mean, of course we can't do everything (and this actually means DS is going to have a lot more free time next semester which is not bad) but I hate to have him skip out on a performance.
I also signed DD up for drums. Which means I guess I need to get her a used drum set or at least a practice pad.
DD just wrapped up her third season (6 weeks) of volleyball at the local program. It's a little frustrating, since there's no progression - every new season starts back at day 1 with the assumption no one's enrolled before. She is not a volleyball prodigy, but she's decent for her age and starting with kids who have never even touched a volleyball is frustrating for her. They told her she can register for the next age group up for more of a challenge (11-14 year olds vs 6-10), but the system won't let her register since she's not old enough...
I've searched around, but there is no middle ground for volleyball as far as I can tell. There's the community center (what she's been doing) and there's comp volleyball (starts at 10 or 11, I can't entirely remember).
mustardseed2007 - bless you. DD1 wants drums for Christmas and I… just can’t. Maybe if my house was remotely sane, but it’s not. At all. Me and the Grinch can’t stand the noise.
We have considered soundproofing a small part of the basement. Maybe then there could be drums.…

mae0111, I told her she had to take piano first which she dutifully did and she is still begging to play the drums a year later so we're going for it. But I definitely don't want to spend money to a new drum set or even commit space if I can get away with practice pads. But I don't know on the 2nd part if that will be an option.
We are finding out meet times for our January meets. Sunday at 8am warmups, 90 minutes away. Staying at my brother's house an hour away. Friday morning at 8am warmups, 2.5 hours away without traffic. Got a hotel and will go up Thursday night after practice and miss school Friday. First meet in February is Friday night 6pm warmups, 2 hours away. This meet is at the coast and I'm treating DD and myself to weekend away so won't come home until Sunday.
This is kind of the opposite of an activity, but I'm pretty sure I'm making my kids quit band. They have never practiced and get in trouble with the band director over it. DD2 lost her flute (it was under the backseat of her dad's car, but it took us a week to discover that) and now DD1 has fully lost her clarinet. I'll be out an additional $300 on top of the monthly rental fee if we can't find it and then I'll have to start making rental payments again on a new one. I'm over it.

Oh yeah. My oldest quit guitar lessons in a similar sitch. I do not live to nag you about practicing.
