What did you read this past week? Have any ratings/reviews/recommendations?
QOTW: On a scale of 1 to 10, how do you rate 2022 so far on a personal level? (Where 1 = never would want to relive this year again and 10 = best year of your life)
I’m still reading The Worst Journey in the World by Apsley Cherry-Garrard but took a break for the new Louise Penny, A World of Curiosities. Both very good in very different ways!
QOTW: I think I’m a 6 or 7 — on the positive side, but not amazing.
The Measure by Nikki Erlick, 3*. I loved the idea of this story, but the story lacked the depth and emotion I wanted.
Foster by Claire Keegan, 3*
I'm currently reading Mr. Dickens and His Carol.
Qotw: I'd rate it a 7. We moved further away from my family which was difficult and I don't really like where we currently live, but my kids seem happier here so I will adjust.
I’m reading The Calculating Stars and listening to Tomorrow, Tomorrow, Tomorrow. Both are keeping my attention so far. I thought CS might be too apocalyptic for me but it hasn’t been too bad after the initial setup.
QOTW: Around a 7. Lots of good trips and family time, and we’ve Made some improvements to our house; but my work life is boring and DH and I could be more connected.
I read Stay Hungry by Sebastian Manascalco (a memoir by a comedian).
I’d probably give myself a 9 this year. I have had more demands than ever with an increased professional workload, part time lengthy commute added in, robust home life with a jillion activities, ongoing volunteering, extended family things I’ve had to step up for, and there are a thousand other things I want to do. I am not sleeping, reading, or working out as much as I used to, but I still absolutely prioritize those whenever I can. I cannot take on one more thing, but I have really accomplished a lot in areas that have value to me, and that feels good.

I finally finished "A Perfect Marriage". So glad I stuck with it, one of the best Kindle Prime books I've read.
I made a dent in "Someday, Maybe". I can't get through my library in e-format, so I have to hustle the next couple of days to finish the paper copy, and then pay fines for turning it in late.
QOTW: Ugh, this year really goes in waves. Health wise the first half of the year was really hard, but now is 100% better. Work has been really, really tough. Overall this is not a year I would ask do to over if I could, but it's probably better than the last 5 years.

Finished Edgewood and Joan. Both were good, but Joan was seriously the best book I've read all year.
Started listening to Kingdom of Back which is told from the POV of Mozart's sister, who was also a prodigy. It's a fictional story about a fantasy world the children created that inspired their music.
Started reading The Slaughterman's Daughter which is great. It's the story of two Jewish sisters in 19th century Russia and feels like if Tarentino wrote a Dostoevsky novel.
QOTW: On a scale of 1 to 10, how do you rate 2022 so far on a personal level? (Where 1 = never would want to relive this year again and 10 = best year of your life) This was a rough year, so maybe a 4 or 5?
