until I see TFG in handcuffs (and even then), I just find it hard to believe anything will come of this. It literally seems like he could shoot someone on 5th avenue and nothing would happen.

I know this is the favorite thing to say, but this has the potential to take down most of his inner circle. Without his yes-men making things happen, he's just a big ol' do nothing turd.
ETA: And a lot of these people are still deeply involved with the Republicans. This is a direct shot to the heart.
On a side note, During Congressional Gold Medal ceremony for Jan. 6 police, representatives of those receiving awards shake hands with Schumer then walk past McConnell and McCarthy. CSPAN video in tweet:

I just feel like we keep thinking "THIS is what is going to cause his demise" or "THIS Will be what it takes to get him to lose support" or "THIS is going to hurt the GOP..."
and yet, here we are. I feel like the villagers in the story "the boy who cried wolf," you know? I cannot get my hopes up any more.

The midterms showed us pretty conclusively that the GOP is pretty hurt. It wasn't a complete route, and we didn't hold the House, BUT according to most of the pundits we might as well call it a substantial victory.

It's fair that we all have our down days, but if we give up, we lose. We have to believe that change is possible to keep fighting.
I don't recall the exact quote but Obama likes to talk about progress coming in fits and starts, steps forward and backward. We're the ones who help those steps forward happen.

This! Things are happening all over the place for TFG. Of course, we will have to wait and see what happens. Many of these cases are very complex and can take years but that doesn't mean that nothing happens and he escapes.
Teri Kanefield provides a great FAQ that answers some of the questions of why it takes so long:

And here is strike one at least for the Trump Org:
Manhattan jury finds Trump Org and Trump Payroll Corp guilty on all charges of tax fraud. It won't send TFG to jail but it will have implications for the Trump Org and for their finances.
"NEWS: The Jan. 6 committee will vote Monday on a subcommittee recommendation to refer *at least* three criminal charges against Trump — including for USC 2383, insurrection. Two others: 1512c obstruction and 371 conspiracy to defraud the US."
Tuesday is the Ways & Means committee is reviewing his taxes. His month keeps on getting better.

I had to miss the bulk of it due to a useless meeting. But I just got the alert from NYT that the panel referred TFG to the DOJ accusing him of four different federal crimes, including insurrection.

4 criminal referrals for Trump: 1. Obstruction of an official proceeding; 2. Conspiracy to defraud the United States; 3. Conspiracy to make a false statement; 4. Inciting, assisting or aiding/comforting an insurrection
Criminal referrals for John Eastman.

The Rs take control and start 100 investigations on Hunter Biden.
The DOJ has a concurrent investigation running into Jan 6, which I've read that the House investigation jeopardizes, so I'm sure charges will be forthcoming. For who, and what they are, is up in the air. We probably won't see anything for another year or longer.
Eastman is issuing a statement about how the committee should have focused on security. Now while that’s valid, maybe insurrectionists don’t need a heads up on new security plans and details.
Kind of like arsonists that are focused on fire prevention.

Sorry to resurrect this thread (and Christmas is the wrong holiday for that anyway) but I don’t think my question deserved its own thread, so here we are.
Anyway, I just saw Jackie Speier interviewed on TV and she said she expects the next Congress‘s Ethics Cmte to censure Gym Jordan, Ron Johnson and the other 2 I’m blanking on atm. What in the world makes her think that? Any ideas?
The ethics committee is always 50/50 and I don’t imagine Kevin McCarthy would put anyone on that committee that might … choose the road less taken. What am I missing that I think she’s out of her mind?
