Anyone else following? The murder trial for Fort Worth PD officer Aaron Dean started yesterday. This case is local to me and has taken three years to get to trial from the date of the murder. Atatiana Jefferson was shot through a window while in her home by a police officer who was called to do a wellness check on the house due to an ajar front door called in by a neighbor. She had a legal, licensed carry weapon that she did pick up once she heard someone outside of the window. Dean fired one round and killed her, claiming he was being threatened with deadly force.
It's incredibly hypocritical how people scream "castle doctrine!" when it's a white man, but a black woman who sees a person pointing a gun at her from outside her window doesn't get even an ounce of that grace.
@@she was playing video games with her eight year old nephew and he watched her get shot. He testified yesterday and was so incredibly heartbreaking and brave.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”

11 years, 10 months, 12 days.
11 years so he can not receive probation during an appeal attempt, 10 months, 12 days so he remembers 10/12 forever - the day he shot her. The jury sent a message here.
