House passes bill to protect same-sex marriage

I'm glad this passed, but pissed that we had to take this measure on something that should be a given right.

I don’t have anything nice to say.

I refuse to read coverage about this since I’m pretty mad so I’m not sure if the House and Senate have to go to conference or if the House mirrored the Senate bill but the Senate bill a) does not preserve the same scope of marriage rights that the relevant Supreme Court rulings did, so this doesn’t exactly codify what we think will be lost once SCOTUS starts taking these cases and b) expanded the right to religious discrimination further than what exists under current federal law even though all the language on that topic was superfluous and really didn’t need to be included.

The Senate in particular can go fuck themselves for confirming those Justices and then turning around and acting like this bill will fix what they broke.

Obviously “this is better than nothing” but please put the emphasis on the second half of that phrase because it is not good.
