H’s parents have decided they want to buy the kids books for Xmas and have asked us to pick some out for them. I already bought the ones I wanted for the girls (thx for waiting until 2 weeks before Xmas). DD1 (7.5, 2nd grade) is reading Harry Potter with me and loving it, but we have all the books as hand me downs from my nephew. Any other similar series that she might like? DD2 (4) loves Piggie and a Gerald but I juts bought the last 2 compilations at Costco. Any recs for those ages appreciated!
My 2nd grade girl likes Diary of a Pug, and Unicorn Diaries. As read-aloud, Cupcake Diaries, Upside Down Magic, Boxcar Children, the first couple of books; Ramona. At that age, my other kids liked Magic Treehouse but DD hasn't gotten into that yet. Oh, I know! Whatever After--but we also do those as read-aloud.

E is 7, and he loves any graphic novel, so Dog Man, Cat Kid, and a fun one we found recently is Catstronauts. I think you could give him literally any graphic novel and he'd be happy. He writes his own sometimes!
He hasn't read these, but they've looked good when I've looked for ideas for him, and might fit what you're looking for: Magic Treehouse, Wings of Fire, Serafina.

Oh and for the 4 year old, A just turned 5 and likes the Pigeon books, the "There's a Unicorn/etc in Your Book", Llama Llama, and any of those learning to read books (particularly anything she's interested in like princesses, Paw Patrol, etc).
My 4 year old loves the Squirrel series also from Mo Williams, and the Pigeon ones. Really everything from Mo Williams is a hit.
She also like the Pig the Pug books, and her teacher has mentioned them before in newsletters and how popular they are in class. I do not enjoy them lol but clearly others do.
I'm no help for your oldest. I remember liking the Magic Treehouse books as a kid but I'm not sure what age that was...
For your 4 year old: The book with no pictures, Pout Pout fish series, any Dr. Seuss books, Little Critter books, Dragons love tacos, Peppa books, Any books by Patricia Polacco. ETA and the Creepy carrots books; those were a big hit.

Probably not what your ILs are looking for, but I've started putting money on my nieces and nephews scholastic accounts. They love picking out their own books.
OH, and I forgot--all the original American Girl historical series are fantastic, especially the original/older versions with small illustrations. But I wouldn't start for a 7 year old with Kirsten, which has a very sad/upsetting thing in the first book (rest are okay), or Addy (also kind of intense first book).
Your DD who is reading Harry Potter might like Wings of Fire. FYI that they come in both graphic novel and regular novel versions so be aware - I bought the "wrong" one, to the chagrin of my DD. DD (4th grade) also tells me that all her friends are reading Lost Cities (I think it's a series). It's too advanced for my DD, but YMMV; my kid is behind grade level on reading.
