“White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows exchanged text messages with at least 34 Republican members of Congress as they plotted to overturn President Trump’s loss in the 2020 election.
Those messages are being fully, publicly documented here for the first time.”
Completely unsurprised and yet baffled that this isn’t a bigger deal. Sitting members of congress conspiring to overthrow the government should be a big fucking deal.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
I feel genuine shock reading some of these texts because I guess I did not believe that these crazies really believed the election was stolen but just wanted to cheat their way into a win. But reading these it seems like they genuinely thought that the election was rigged. WHICH IS INSANE.

I actually find their actions a *little* more understandable if they genuinely thought that the election was rigged and they genuinely thought they were doing the right thing. I mean, it’s still batshit crazy to think the election was rigged. But it seems worse to me if they knew the election wasn’t rigged, lied and said it was, then tried to cheat their way into the outcome they wanted….you know, like Trump and his inner circle did.

I keep thinking about how if this was happening in other countries and the whole world was watching them slide into authoritarianism, a majority of people in the US would wonder how on earth it could happen. And yet, when it actually DOES happen here, at least a third of the country just shrugs and calls anyone who points it out hysterical and hyperbolic.

And it goes to show just how easy it can happen.
I've been teaching the same US History class since the 2014-2015 academic year; I've taught hundreds of students.
During the first couple of years, when we'd get to World War II, the #1 question I'd get was how Hitler was ever elected to public office.
I have not been asked that question in at least six years.

People on this board told us we were hysterical and hyperbolic

1. Bummer: The text log does not include responses from Meadows to these texts.
2. 😐 Green’s communications director, Rachel del Guidice, provided a statement to TPM that suggested his ideas came from people in his district rather than the congressman himself. “Congressman Green was passing along what constituents were sending him to keep the White House informed on the sentiments of his constituents,” del Guidice said. “He wasn’t advocating for any specific course of action.”

I just read through the article quickly, and one of the things that stood out to me is that these Boomers are "signing" their damn texts.
Gonna make it pretty hard to say that you didn't write them, isn't it?
I’ve noticed Boomers do this on FB too. lol
anyway they’ll all just be like my phone was stolen, hacked, prove it was me sending it, etc
The Congressional security office could provide video with audio documenting them typing while reading their texts out loud and these assholes WHO HAVE NO SHAME would still dodge responsibility for doing it. Because they can.

It is a big fucking deal, but instead of doing anything about it, it sounds like the House is going to endlessly investigate Hunter Biden. Priorities.
