My son had one (a razor). He left it outside under our covered porch and it stopped holding a charge/working after a few months. I had warned him to keep it inside but bringing it inside every time he wanted to use it was too much to ask of him at that age I guess.

Yes, DS has a GoTrax that my parents got him last year for Christmas. He barely uses it because none of his friends have/use one. But H and I have used it occasionally to go to friend's or a nearby bar I think it can go a little over 3 miles before needing a recharge. I have no complaints about it in the little amount we've used it.

We had an electric razor. It was a cool novelty, but it didn’t really stick. The kids didn’t take care of it and it didn’t last that long. They’d forget to charge it and I’d forget to remind them.

Yes, my son got one for his 7th birthday two years ago. It's in great shape still——he doesn't use it a ton but often enough to justify keeping it around. He has enjoyed it. We just keep it on the charger in the garage when it isn't in use.

DH and DS1 got ninebot scooters a few years ago. They ride all over the neighborhood and even into town. Ds1 is 11 now (probably we got when he was 8 or 9). They are still used frequently.
We have two gotrax. They are adult sized and we use them a lot, especially since two of us can ride together. We ride in the neighborhood, and H and DD have taken them on paved walking trails that go into town. They have easily gone 6+ miles on a charge. Having said that, the version we have is now selling for almost $400 (I think H got a deal? Or at least he told me he did!) Not sure if that is the price range you are looking for.

For right now, we’re looking to keep it under $200. This is a last-minute Christmas request, and C is only 8. If he uses it a lot, I might consider a more expensive one in the next few years. Some of the older (ie: middle school) aged kids use them to ride to the neighborhood middle school. I have no idea what they do with them during the day since they don’t have lockers….
My 8 year old has a Razor electric scooter and she likes it. It doesn't hold a charge for all that long, and she's always forgetting to plug it back in to the charger but she and all her neighborhood friends enjoy riding it.

I think we’re going to go with a Razor! C’s best friend has one, so hopefully they’ll both be able to go about the same speed as each other. It would be a huge pain if one boy went faster and one slower, or if one had a significantly more expensive scooter than the other.

Thanks to this thread for adding one more gift under the tree that I totally hadn't planned on LOL. There are plenty of gifts but none really had a "wow" factor, I feel like this is something DD has never thought to ask for that she'll LOVE.
