It's rainy and cold and I'm sick, so I'm spending the day under a blanket in front of the fireplace working on school applications for next year.
I've not been able to keep track of the days at all this week. We had a ton of stuff happening all week. Therapy for DD1, piano for both, tutoring for DD1 on Monday, Med management appointment and Christmas concert Tuesday, outdoor light display on Wednesday, Spanish Nativity and basketball for DD2 yesterday. Tonight DD1 and I are supposed to head to her first school basketball game of the season (I'm assistant coaching), but I feel like I've been run over by a truck. So I'm going to ask the other coaches to step in, and beg DH to take her. He's wiped out too, and she is definitely coming down with a cold, so I'm wondering if we should all just skip it.
Tomorrow both kids have basketball - DD2 in the morning and DD1 in the afternoon. We will have an electrician here finishing up the work in our new basement hangout room. I'm hoping DD1 can take a practice entrance exam in preparation for her last attempt to get her scores up.
Sunday DD2 is supposed to go to her BFF's birthday party, but I'm reluctant to send her. She's been so sick all fall, and she still has a cold/cough that's hanging on. The party is at a stable, and it's only going to be 30 degrees. I'm just not wild about her being outside for 2 hours in the cold when she just can't seem to recover from this latest virus (and there have been so, so many in the past couple of months).
I had two proposals to get in today. Those are done, so I’m breathing a sigh of relief. And I had another deliverable that’s now delivered. A couple more tasks and them I’m out for vacation (in theory) for 2 weeks. But considering people keep putting a million meetings on my calendar, my vacation is spotty at best. This is highly annoying because I’m trying to use up as much PTO as possible since we are moving next year to unlimited PTO. My current PTO is converting to stock options which vest in like 4 years.
I had a crazy busy week and was already looking forward to a quiet work from home day. Then we got the sad news about the girls' friend's mom moving to hospice last night and I had to tell the girls this morning. So I'm just mentally done. I'm doing a couple small tasks that have to get off my plate, but mostly I'm just chatting with beau and relaxing around the house. I just don't have the mental bandwidth for more today.
Tomorrow night the girls and I are going to see A Christmas Carol at a local theater. I also told the girls that on Sunday I'll take them shopping for new clothes. They've hit a growth spurt so nothing fits and DD1 is sick of all the "cheesy" graphic t-shirts they have. She's moving into only wanting solid colored clothes instead of "baby shirts" as she calls them.

It is cold this morning (Florida cold, so like the 50s), and my bum hip is killing me. I have a bum hip at 38. I’m basically 38 going on 90. I am really hoping that I just slept wrong on it because otherwise my body is ridiculous.
This week has been insane and I’m expecting it to be quieter next weekend, thank you universe. Kids are in camp most of next week, then we are all off together for 5 days. I am really looking forward to the break. This weekend should be not too crazy, we are going to a cookie exchange and I am also really looking forward to eating H’s dark chocolate peanut butter cookies. Hoping to knock out some cleaning and wrapping too.
My strategic planning meeting is done!! It went off without a hitch and all technology worked. One coworker commented that the were impressed, because they have never seen me "work". Usually when I facilitate or present, it is out in the community, not with coworkers, so apparently they had no idea what I do.
I not productive today, particularly because my big project is done and so am I, and because I am tracking Ds on his way home. 9 hours out.
Tomorrow Dh bought tickets to Avatar in the afternoon for the family, then finishing up some last minute gifts. Side note, his company rented out a small local theater tomorrow free everything, but because Dh and Ds insist the movie cannot bee seen except in whatever technology and surround sound the larger theater has, Im out $80? All I want is popcorn?
Sunday, dd and I are decorating the church. I'm going to go to an open house of a restored, historic home about 30 minutes away. Then home to make another double batch of Christmas cookies and chili now that Ds is home.

I'm covering for one of my coworkers today so it's going to be a busy Friday at work. I finished my antibiotics a couple days ago for the strep throat that I tested positive for 2 weeks ago. My sore throat is back. I scheduled an appointment but the soonest they had was Monday. I just emailed my dr. to see if she would prescribe a different kind of antibiotics since I don't think the first round worked. No clue what we're doing this weekend. It's a kid free weekend but it may snow, so we might be stuck at home. Plus it depends on how I'm feeling.
supertrooper1 - DD1 used to get strep all the time, and the first round of abx often didn’t work.
If you start on a second course, throw out your tooth brush and get a new one for the duration of the antibiotics course, then throw it out again. Change out your pillow case as often as you can. It sounds weird, but a nurse at dd1’s pediatrician’s office recommended it and the repeat infections became less frequent.

mae0111, thanks for the suggestions! I didn't change my toothbrush and I probably should have. And now I don't feel so bad asking for more antibiotics in my email to my dr. They're so anti-antibiotic, so I felt like I was wrong for asking in my email today.

We always replace toothbrushes, toothpaste, chap stick, anything near the mouth for strep. Hope it all works!
I’m off today working tomorrow. It’s been a roller coaster week with lots of emotions (mostly DD and DH). And then me managing them and helping DS with homework, trying to find his coat which we never did, getting organized. We had band practice and a band concert. Skipped soccer on Tuesday but there is a practice tonight and a short indoor game tomorrow.
The neighbors are having a party tomorrow.
Question for y’all. If you were in the same room facing away (maybe 4-5 foot distance) on Monday morning with someone that tested positive on Thursday. It’s Friday and I have no symptoms, would you say I’m in the clear? When I got it from DS, I had symptoms in 2 days. Would you test being asymptomatic?

Can you send her in a mask? The mask would keep the nose and throat warmer and keep her from spreading any junk that she has.
waverly - I’d test and assume I’m in the clear if negative.
And the birthday party might sort itself out. Dd2 came home with a headache and sore throat. Poor kid. I think she picked up something else. So barring a Miraculous recovery, sounds like she will stay home.
Now DD1’s sniffle has moved into her chest. But her team is short players for her first game, so she’s insisting on going. I don’t feel bad sending her because it’s all the same kids that have been coughing all over each other all week. But she already offered to skip her game tomorrow to recover if she could go today. Seems like a good plan.
Y’all. (You can tell I’ve been drinking because I’m getting more Southern by the minute.) Y’all need to put caramel flavored vodka into hot chocolate, top with whipped cream, then drizzle it with caramel sauce. So good. I’m going to sleep hard tonight.

That sounds amazing!
And one of those would make my Boston accent pop - no more R’s evah 😂
The girls’ BFF’s mom passed away last night. I’m heartbroken for all of them. She leaves behind a ten year old and a six year old. And in a weird twist of fate, I’m getting my annual mammogram this morning. Feels a bit like it’s in honor of her and her battle with breast cancer.
DD2 woke up sobbing with a terrible headache and fever this morning. I gave her some motrin and she promptly vomited. I think it's flu, not norovirus, because she hasn't been sick again and it's been 90 minutes.
I have no voice, but am wearing a mask just in case it's norovirus - I can't go down with that.
Bleaching, cleaning up, trying to monitor her fever, can't communicate with her because my mouth is covered and she can't hear me talk. I guess we will text?
And our brand new not-quite-finished basement room flooded last night. We've lived here for almost 10 years and have never had water in that part of the basement. So while I was cleaning up puke, DH was pulling up newly installed steps and shop vac-ing the water, and setting up fans to dry things out.
It's like a bad sitcom over here today.
ETA: a short time later, I was making myself a chai latte with oat milk. In all of the chaos this morning I guess I forgot to put the top on the oat milk properly. So when I went to shake it VIGOROUSLY... it basically exploded. I had oat milk dripping down my glasses, in my hair, all over the counter, floor, chairs...
I hope it makes you guys laugh. DD1 saw the whole thing live and we just could not stop laughing
