We didn't go to my family for Thanksgiving because I got covid. Now we are not going to DH's parent's for Christmas because they have covid.
I'm only a little sad. I was getting uneasy thinking of 10 people for 3 nights in a 4 bed / 2.5 bath house (we're going to try it again in 3 weeks). Plus, we in DFW are about to get our freeze and with the midwest storm I wasn't sure our flight would make it out on xmas eve, nor did I want to worry about what was going on at the house while away. I braved the outside today to get some food to make a nice meal for DH and I.

So far we are healthy *knock on wood* and our local plans are intact, but though we are still planning to travel to visit other family right after Xmas one of those households has Covid so we may not see them.

@@
A had a cold and passed it to L. So far H and I are fine. We shall see. Knocking on wood L can just sleep and rest the next two days. We don’t have huge plans but I’d like us to be healthy.
We were home for thanksgiving because my H and I had Covid.
One side will likely be affected because my 98 year old grandpa fractured his back and checked out of the ER AMA. I can’t imagine he’ll be up for our event, but he’ll want at least a couple of people to go to him. So who knows.
My SIL and her family have the flu. They were still planning to come to Christmas, and we convinced my ILs that possibly exposing the old people (and everyone) to influenza was a horrible idea. We wouldn’t have shown up if they were there, but ILs agreed to push it out a few days, at least, instead.
I just got to my parents' house 20 minutes or so ago, so too late to change anything now! I guess it is possible some family members could get sick and not get together on the actual day, but we are all going to get together first thing in the morning Thursday so I'm seeing them no matter what.
Sadly my sister isn't able to make it due to an ongoing health issue, so I guess plans did change there but we've known that for a couple of weeks already at this point.
My sister came down with the flu this weekend. We're on if she recovers, who knows if she gives it to the rest of her family.
ETA: She gave it to the rest of her household. My mother is now literally praying that they recover by Christmas because I told her we won't come mingle with the flu crowd (we're all local, we all got together 2 weeks ago to bake cookies, we'll all get together the weekend after New Years for my dad's birthday).
I offered to clear next weekend but am somehow the bad guy. Their family shared RSV with us this fall and my mother ended up in urgent care and we both had bronchitis, so I really don't want to play that game again.
DS tested positive for COVID Wednesday. DH and mom on Thursday. Me on Sunday am. Both docs suggested masks for 10 day after symptoms, so we'll do Christmas with niece on NYD instead. I'll do something small & easy with them here Christmas Day if I'm up to it.
We're under a flood watch that could potentially make mom's place tough to get to
Not yet but I’m on Day 11 of Covid and my H is on day 21. The kids are still negative but I’m white knuckling it to tonight when I will administer the final Covid test before we leave at the ass crack of dawn tomorrow.

Yes, based on weather, we changed our plans to go away this weekend. We probably could have kept our plans but didn’t want to be out of town in a town that was going to be bitter cold and possibly lose power. So we’ll do fun things here instead.

Not yet. We all feel fine so far and so do the family members we are visiting throughout the weekend, but obviously that can change.
Weather is a similar story. We aren't getting much snow here (if at all), just rain and then a flash freeze on Friday evening. If the roads are still terrible for Christmas Eve, then we may have to cancel visiting my mother for Christmas Eve an hour north of where we live.
@@@ Possibly at this point! Another sick kid who hasn’t gotten fully over the illnesses that started before thanksgiving. I have an appointment for her today.
I honestly think this holiday will just break some families with small kids. I know we have short memories as people, but damn this is brutal.

I’ll probably have an actual nervous breakdown if we have to cancel our plans with family on Christmas Eve.
@@@ Between my 2 year old and my 3 year old niece it’s been an absolutely brutal year with illness and canceled plans and I just want to enjoy one damn day as a family and have some holiday cheer damnit.
My niece had the flu last week but so far is on the mend and will be past the infectious period by the time we see them on Sat as long as she doesn’t give it to my sister and BIL (so far so good.)
Yup. DD1 had a stomach bug right before Thanksgiving. She was better by the holiday (just barely) but it ruined a lot of my plans.
Kids had the flu last week and I’m sick now. We didn’t have any plans for Xmas anyway, so at least that’s the silver lining. But being sick for another holiday sucks.
We are doing well. I had covid last weekend, but it was a really quick recovery. And thankfully it didn't spread in the family. Kids were in school until yesterday so we will have to wait it out a bit more to make sure they didn't pick anything up on the last day.
Otherwise we just celebrate with both sets of parents and my BILs. So far everyone is healthy.

@@@ Not sure yet, though our only plans are to hang at home and eat and open presents. But the 8yo woke up with a hurting tummy this am around 4, so who knows. We haven't been sick for three years, so it could just be the after effects of too many cookies from baking yesterday. But this is the kid that barely flinched when her appendix burst, so I take her pretty seriously if she says something is hurting.
I put yes because we had to back out of some family and friend gatherings the week prior to Christmas. I think we'll be healthy ish again by Christmas after getting over presumed flu, but we do Christmas alone at home so it won't really matter (although I'm thrilled to actually feel good finally - not taking that for granted).
Same. I mean, we had dinner reservations, but that was it. But, I will be shocked if I don’t test positive for Covid in the next day or two (today would be the easiest day, but for find doctors on Christmas weekend reasons 😂) due to an exposure I had.
I’m pretty sure canceling a dinner reservation isn’t the plans this poll is about

I said maybe. H has had a bad cold and has been negative for covid so far. He's been sick since Saturday, so I am hoping whatever it is is not contagious anymore. DS had something last week, and my guess is he passed it on to H.
The weather/roads are more likely to disrupt our plans, but I am hoping we can still make it to see family and just take it slow. The roads are snow packed, and I think its too cold for the salt and chemicals to work, so it will be like this for a while.
Aaaand my dad just tested positive. So that’s a switch from maybe to yes 😭
I hate this for you so much. I’m sorry.
Thank you. It has been such a shifty thanksgiving to end of year for us. At least we got a few fun things in earlier this month so it wasn’t all doom and gloom.
So far things are looking good! We have no plans outside the house on Christmas Day, but SIL is flying in the 26-2. I’ve been very “I’ll believe it when I see it.” because I assumed something would derail our plans, but so far it’s a go.
We have had such a bad run since the middle of October - Canadian Thanksgiving (Oct 10th) was the last weekend we were all healthy.
Not yet, I managed to get a mild cold, I'm assuming either from the kid or the few hours I was at school Friday. So far COVID negative (used up a couple tests that were expiring on 12/26, LOL). Right now all I have a stuffy nose. I'll test before people come over Saturday if I still have any symptoms.
I chose maybe. My whole family is battling a nasty cold. We've all had it over a week but it's hanging on with a tight grip unfortunately. Thankfully we don't have to travel. My parents are 5 minutes away from us. Extended family Christmas is at their house.

No, H and I got Covid last week but we didn’t have any plans anyhow. I am feeling much better but still have head congestion. The only thing we have planned is to deliver meals in our community Christmas morning. We are still doing that. I got symptoms 12/12, tested positive on 12/13 so I am fine to be out of isolation per the CDC. We will both mask up when we go to doors.

We don't have plans for Christmas, and DH just recovered from COVID (pretty sure he got it from his choir, not Thanksgiving), so I think we are in the clear this time. I suppose we could get something else or more of us could get COVID, but since we're not doing anything anyway...
