@@@
I live in an area where when it comes to longer breaks public schools just have a one around Christmas and one around Easter, then summer. Whereas up in NY where we have family they also get a separate winter break in later Feb. I know you can't reschedule holidays, but man, it'd be nice if we knew that if holiday plans got curtailed by weather or illness we could reschedule something for just a month-and-a-half later.
Year-round school with more frequent built-in breaks would take so much pressure off of travel planning.
@@@ We are at MIL’s. Everyone feels good, and we have been out of school for almost a week so not much contact with people. BIL and SIL and kids are coming tomorrow, school all week, and they are always sick with something so expecting this week to be no different. Hopefully it’s just a cold and nothing more nefarious.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
I have Covid (positive test Monday, but had symptoms Wednesday on). So far H and the kids are negative. Fingers crossed they stay that way so that we can go to my parents’ next week.
Not yet. I have a sinus infection, but even urgent care agreed it's not COVID. I've also tested negative on like 4-5 rapid tests. I'll test again before I go see my parents tomorrow, just to be sure. So far the only difference is that I'll be on antibiotics for Christmas.
Amazingly, again, no. I got COVID December 1 but no one else did. But I was negative on an antigen test on December 15 and we're still good. So things are proceeding as normal here.
@ I refuse to answer and jinx anything because I answered no for Thanksgiving, and then that morning we had a super bad cough in the house and we couldn’t go because new babies were going to be there.
Our plans are sort of affected by weather this year in that my brother won’t be driving in from Wisconsin as planned. I feel bad for him being by himself far away.
This was going to be the most normal Xmas, but nephew has covid. DS threw up last night but seems fine now. My brother also isn’t feeling great. Not sure who will actually end up coming. ILs plan to come tomorrow. Waiting to hear on my parents/brother and BIL/SIL. We are all covid testing and negative thankfully. We were with nephew last weekend.

Sorry for everyone dealing with last minute illnesses and changes of plans.
Asymptomatic covid testing day 1 complete, and assuming we are all still good after testing in the morning we will get to spend Christmas Eve with my sister and her family, my BIL and his girlfriend, and my mom. So freaking happy but also can’t sleep with the excitement and nerves hoping nothing goes wrong.
@@ One of my children just started displaying signs of pink eye. The other is on antibiotics for an ear infection. Is there a bonus prize if everyone is sick?
DD has a mild cold? No fever, just a little sniffle. She’s doing better, so I think that part will be fine. Th weather though is being a real jerk. Freezing rain, so sheets of ice everywhere. We had to take the dog to the vet yesterday, and we did ok enough until we got home. DH turned down our street, which is a hill, but we didn’t look at the bottom to see if it was clear. It was NOT. There were 3 cars at the bottom, all blocking the entire road. DH managed to stop on the sidewalk about a foot from one of the cars. It was awful. He was a total boss and I needed new pants. Hahaha
We might just skip Christmas Eve at my parents house. It was icy over at their house already, and my mom says you can’t really navigate their cul de sac. The roads should be clear by Christmas, but what a damn bummer.

We didn’t have plans to go anywhere, but my oldest is sick. We are taking him to the doctor this AM. We just had COVID at Thanksgiving, so it’s more likely to be something else. No fun.
I was hoping maybe we were in the clear but nope. Kid #1 woke up with a stomachache...he threw up once but has kept sprite and crackers down, and is feeling much better after a nap. I texted our hosts for tonight that we likely were going to need to cancel, and got a call back that she was just about to text me because her family woke up with a respiratory thing that may be Covid 😬 We are not sad about staying in though because 1. The weather sucks and 2. We realized that in the 20 years we've been together we've never spent a Christmas Eve 100% at home. If we spend tomorrow at home too, so be it!
My SIL got Covid the day before thanksgiving so we canceled. My 1 year old nephew has a cough but so does my 4 year old so we decided to stick to our plans for today.

@@ Sister #1 and BIL were here for a few days before Christmas and planning to stay through the holiday. Big deal because BIL works for utility company in the Midwest to make sure people have power but he was able to arrange to work remote. Sister is pregnant so they're on higher COVID alert.
Mom had stopped at sister #2'a house for a couple days before driving to my house for Christmas with me and sister #1. A day after mom gets to my house, sister #2 calls to say she tested positive and my mom was exposed. Que panic from pregnant sister #1 while H and I didn't know what to do. Everyone is vaxed but my mom's exposed and her house is 7 hours away through an active blizzard warning. Sister #1 is still understandably worried so her and BIL drove 6 hours home today to be on the safe side. I feel bad but I think it's the best decision that could have been made.

I cant answer the poll, but ultimately, kind of impacted by weather? We're at my parents house and normally wouldn't be in a rush to leave so would probably have a normal.lunch and head out, but it's supposed to snow starting sometime in the 12:00 hour so we're going to lead out no later than 11:30. So in all, trip cut short by about an hour and a half.

No, but we haven't traveled yet. We're heading to Ohio on Tuesday to spend a few days in the CLE area to visit family, and I'm trying to minimize our exposures in the run-up to that travel. We went to church yesterday and were some of the few who masked. My parents just got over covid and so they are at relatively low risk ATM, but DH's dad is in the midst of multiple heart procedures over the next couple of months and he absolutely should not get exposed to anything.

Well, just changed our answer. I woke up this morning with lower Gi issues like whoa and spent the whole day in bed. H called his family and they decided to come anyway. His sister is a pediatrician and asked a bunch of questions and felt it was safe. I’m relieved, we spent $$$$ on food and it had to be cooked, and I didn’t want it to go to waste. I did not go see anyone and nobody else in my house is sick, so we think it might have been something I ate yesterday.
Luckily I had done a ton of food prep on Friday, so H was able to finish it and make the nice meal with his sisters helping (he does many wonderful things, but haaaates cooking). But blah, I missed the meal I’ve been looking forward to for weeks!

Xmas went fine, but our New Year’s weekend in the mountains just got cancelled. Friends were flying in tomorrow but he just tested pos for Covid:(. And we would possibly go up just us if not for multiple snow systems moving through this weekend.

My dad and stepmother planned to have Christmas and both were diagnosed with bronchitis last Thursday so Christmas was cancelled. They both seem to be on the road to recovery. MH, DS and I stayed in and relaxed and ate all day in our pjs.
We had plans to see my Hs family on Christmas day but my nephew had a fever. He was fever free on the 26th so we got together. Her other son's fever started on the 27th and my kid's fever started last night.
So far my son's fever is the worst - 103 but he always runs super high temps. Hopefully it doesn't last too long.
We got an extra day with family because everyone was fortunately able to leave town early to get ahead of the storm.
But now several of us are sick with a cough and fever. I haven’t had a high fever in years, and forgot just how miserable that is! Still worth it to be able to spend time with family, though.
#1 ended up being okay with a bland diet Christmas Eve and woke up feeling "fantastic" (his words) on Christmas Day so we tentatively proceeded as planned (brunch at our house with ILs and dinner at my parents) without issue. Whatever he had on Christmas Eve didn't get the rest of us so phew!
Mother tested positive again 3 days ago. Rebound. She got another round of Paxlovid and the Christmas celebration has been rescheduled again.
She had a meltdown regarding this. It was not pretty.
I'm sorry.
I think my in-laws did not visit the doctor (they are over 70) nor do I think they will do any more testing for rebounds because they are so bummed on rescheduling Christmas. While this bothers me, I am the safest having just had it over T-day.
@@@@ The under 2 yr old mom and the pregnant mom are the two that should be setting expectations but I don't think they are as cautious as me.
If MIL coughs on the food she's making, I'm going to lose it. My germaphobeness is amplifying as we get closer to flying out next weekend.
Can I click yes twice? Flu impacted our Xmas and DD2 got an ear infection after the flu. She finished the oral abx last week, but I think her ear is still infected. She keeps saying her ear hurts and last night had a fever of 101. We’ve started ear drops and canceled our NYE plans with friends. They are traveling to see family next week so even though I don’t think DD2 is contagious it’s not worth taking a risk of getting their kids sick and messing up their trip. Ugh I feel like we are never going to be healthy. We literally had 3 days that we were all healthy between my flu and the next infection. Is it spring yet?
