Just recently finished The Many Daughters of Afong Moy. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked it. My only negative thoughts were that I had some unanswered questions, and at times it was hard to remember which character the book was following at the moment.
About 2/3 through Well Played (sequel to Well Met). It's mostly good, but I'm a little thrown off by some things in the story right now. We'll see how things turn out!
QOTW: I stopped making resolutions years ago. I try to make goals, but they aren't necessarily tied to the calendar year. I just prefer not to promise myself something I know I won't follow through on! I'm bad at it, lol.
I finished The Light Pirate, 4*. It was a very fast read because I didn't want to put it down. My only complaint is that I wish she would have tied up a couple of the loose ends. I'm currently reading The Enigma Game by Elizabeth Wein.
Qotw:I always set my goal low because I don't want to make my leisure activity a stressful activity. I do try to match the previous year, but I don't get too serious about it. I read 5 fewer books (500 fewer pages) this year.
Iām reading People We Meet on Vacation and listening to Ladder to the Sky. Iām thinking I may finish the audio before the end of tomorrow, which was not the one I would have expected when I started both.
QOTW: my b-day is a few days into January so I often make a resolution/intention/goal related to my next year older.
My girls and I finished reading aloud Key Player by Kelly Yang. We have already started on her next book New From Here. Just tagging lilac05 as a thanks for the rec. I consider it a huge win when my two kids, who donāt agree on much of anything, chant in unison āOne more chapter! One more chapter!ā š
I donāt really have resolutions but goals - exercise more days than not, give more money away than the year before, etc. Working with commuting and also still volunteering a ton has really quashed my chance to read for fun unfortunately but Iām at 25 on the year anyway (might finish 26 tomorrow). That seems a reasonable goal for next year though Iād always like to read more.
minzy, thatās so great! I just canāt speak highly enough about the whole series. Iām pretty sure Key Player came out after New From Here, but theyāre not super dependent on a timeline. I need to check to see if sheās writing another one.
We set a family goal of 120 books for the year, and weāre down to the wire. Iām currently listening to āTry Softer.ā Itās not my favorite, but itāll help add one more to the list! Iām also reading Know My Name, and am really loving it. I have a lot of books that are partially read that I need to finish. I didnāt stop reading them because I wasnāt enjoying them (I have no problem with DNF), but justā¦because? I donāt get it.
I donāt really make resolutions. Sometimes I try to regroup and set some overall general goals, but I havenāt done that since 2019/2020.
Earlier this week I read Shrines of Gaiety by Kate Atkinson, which I didn't really care for. There was something about the writing style that annoyed me but I can't quite articulate why. There were also too many characters and I didn't really care about any of them.
Now I'm reading The Silent Companions by Laura Purcell. I wasn't expecting the dual time periods and find that I'm only mildly interested in the story.
QOTW: Definitely more goals than resolutions like others have said. I mostly want to continue goals regarding working out and drinking less. I was intermittently successful last year and want to be more consistent going forward.

I finished Swashbucklers and Black Sun and both were fine, but neither ended (Black Sun's sequel comes out in 2023, I dunno what happened with Swashbucklers) which is a very unsatisfying way to end the year!
QOTW: Do you make resolutions? If so, what is yours for 2023? I usually do, but for some reason I don't have any for next year. Maybe travel more?
